Has anyone here ever stayed in the Reno/Tahoe area? Any recommendations on places to stay?

harrahs and harveys are connected therefore are in the elite of the casinos.....after that Nugget is probably third best....but haven't been there for years. That is the Tahoe area..

I stay at Harvey's every year in tahoe...They have decent rooms...I mainly stay there becuase of the convience to the sports book...I would say if you're gonna be in tahoe, the best sports book on the south shore is harvey's...Harrah's has a joke of one and the old ceasers is mediocre...

Horizon.

One of the few casinos in the entire world where you can actually win. It's nuts.

If you would like to experience downtown (semi-old school) Reno I would recommend Silver Legacy. The area is kind of like downtown Vegas without as many homeless folks. Not, of course, that there is anything politically-correct wrong with constantly being hounded by homeless folks, as one might be in Las Vegas, especially downtown.

Stayed at the Peppermill in Reno once many years ago. Actually got barred from playing BJ while I was there. It was a little ways away from downtown, but fairly nice.

been to each hundreds of times

Peppermill is the best place in Reno, but it's off on it's own. Silver Legacy is the best downtown, where most of the casinos are at.

Harveys is the best place in Tahoe. I like the Horizon too....a tad bit rough around the edges but one of the few places left that still has decent comps.

agree with jdog. also you may throw in the Atlantis in Reno, across the street from the Peppermill. Those two are more happening than downtown now.

What did you expect with the best rules in Reno on their generous blackjack?

I like the Reno Hilton, out near the airport and some distance from town. It has a nice pool and runs some good regional poker tournaments. Takes 10 minutes by bus into town. Reno is really like small town USA with casinos.

Hilton,Johns or Peppermill.

Stay away from downtown it is a dump.

Tahoe is beautiful go there but the gambling is tighter.

Maybe I'll take a little trip to Reno/Tahoe in the coming weeks. I think it's been around 10 years since I've been there, but I watched some of the golf tournament from Tahoe yesterday and it looked nice.
Could use the change of pace.

Mark Twain dubbed Tahoe the 8th wonder of the world and he named the ski resort Heavenly Valley.

All should ski there before they die!

whatever you do...DO NOT play blackjack at the El Dorado. they employ a newish system that signals the dealer to shuffle whenever the hi-lo count gets to high.....i.e alot of high cards left in the shoe. terrible dis-advantage to ALL players.
