Got to be one of the most undervalued teams in baseball right now. They are throwing a guy that has an ERA under 1 in his last 3 starts, facing a guy in Cain who is 3-12. In fact the Giants are 4-18 this year when he starts. True, he doesn't get run support and you can't blame Cain for it but that's part of the game and must be considered. Some years it seems certain pitchers are left hanging out to dry. Overall Nats are hitting better, they got the better bullpen, and they got the better starter going in my opinion. Of late they are really crushing the ball too, hitting well over .330 the last week or so. This team is playing inspired ball right now.

Not saying they will win, but +140? I have the game as a pick, somebody is going to be wrong. Loved them today at a nice price too, hell they are 8-2 the last 10 games, hottest team in the NL. Can someone make a case for laying the wood with the Giants tomorrow? Usually when I think the game is easy I am missing something. Thanks.

I Like It

Cain has been a disaster, and the Nat`s LU has some run producers. Like +140 & over 7-. Also think there could be a little let down after LN. BOL to you. Also like O`s & Tigers O 9-.

So basically you are saying that <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City><st1:place>Redding</st1:place></st1:City> has a better chance of getting the Giants hitters out since Cain is pitching rather than someone like Zito.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p> </o:p>
Past run support is one of the most overrated tools some handicappers employ in their decision making process, as in most cases it truly lacks any predictive measures on future outcomes. With over 200 starting pitchers in the league, you are certain to get some outlier cases in which some pitchers get run support well over the teams average run scored per game, or the contrary. But is there a sound fundamental reason for this being the case, or is it merely randomness? Unless you could come up for a rationale reason for a starter not getting run support, it is hard to assume it is not randomness that lacks future predictability.

It may have gotten to the point in which Cain now falls into one of those rare circumstances in which past run support (or the lack thereof) may be sustainable for a short period of time, as his bad luck has lasted so long and has been heavily scrutinized in the bay area and around the clubhouse, that it appears the Giants hitters are starting to press at the plate.

However, in general, a lack of run support lacks predictive measures, therefore making it irrational to use in handicapping. If you see someone constantly using it in their reasoning behind a pick, you will know that they don’t really understand how baseball (and randomness for that matter) really works.
