I am moving to Vegas soon and I've heard different things about getting a job. Do I need to join a union to work in a casino (food service)?? I know I'll need a health card and TAM card but what else do I have to look forward to??? Any other suprises??

A job in food service?! What are you trying to do, mack on all those innocent 19 and 20 year old girls?

Because that thought has never crossed my mind.

Buddy of mine says bartenders in that town make 100k a year. Not sure how true that is but a few told him that last time he was there.

You made some pretty good money at it and were a hit with the girls, I dont see why you would be against it.

You need a sheriffs card. They check background and take fingerprints. Lots of low level service jobs there and low pay. Get local paper, the RJ, Review Journal and check out what is available. It is online I think.

An Elderly lady I know bought a condo out there in Dec..
She let three guys (wanna be poker players)in their 20's move in. I thought it was a mistake, since I know these guys.

She put them through dealers school and they are doing great. Dealing alot and playing small stakes part-time.

Go to the Human resource department of any casino and you will have a food service job in 24 hours. You need a gaming card and a health card which will take a few hours.

Yeah, If you don't mind working the overnight in the coffee shop. If you want in to a "Fine Dining" room you have to know someone or put your time in (6 months to 1 year) and transfer in-house.
You need a Non-gaming sheriff's card, Tam (alcohol) and health card. Costs about $150 total. Sheriff's card takes about 3-5 hours,Tam you need to take a class and health card is pretty easy to get.

I know someone mentioned bartending. You really have to know someone to get a casino bartending job. Otherwise it will be at least 1 year of bar-backing.

If you can keep any bad habits in check you can make a good living out there as a server. I managed and served out there and would definitely be a server over mgmt(Better money and less headaches).
