Personally thought this trade was garbage, and didn't want Gagne, thought the money could be better spent in other places, and sure enough he confirms it for me. 1/3 IP, 3H, 4R to give away a 4 run lead in the eighth.

Is it just me, or am I the only who thought the Red Soxs didn't need him?

They have the oriental and Papelbon, why the need for more?

Why are big market teams' fans always SO fickle? The guy had 1 bad outing and you're calling the trade crap? Give me a break. I'm sure you were all saying that after his first couple appearances too, right?

I love Gagne and believe he is solid. I'm just not sure why the Red Sox went out of their way to get em.

...was more talking about the first two. But I agree the trade was a little weird, considering they had a great 'pen to begin with. More like keeping him from the Yanks.

Gagne has given up runs in three of his four appearances with the Sox. Personally, I thought they gave up too much to get him. I will still feel that way even if he turns it around and is a stud the rest of the way. They still gave up a little too much.

<table><tbody><tr valign="top"><td colspan="3" class="headline" valign="top"> Gagne blows game versus Orioles </td> </tr> <tr valign="top"> <td colspan="3" bgcolor="#ba313c"> Eric Gagne - R - BOS - Aug. 10 - 10:43 pm et </td> </tr> <tr><td colspan="3" valign="top">After the Red Sox took a 5-1 lead in the top of the eighth Friday against the Orioles, Eric Gagne gave it all back Friday while recording just one out.
It's nice that his players like him and all that, but Terry Francona really can be an awful manager when he gets the chance. The Orioles had left-handers Corey Patterson and Nick Markakis due up to start the eighth, but Francona went to Gagne over Hideki Okajima. A double, an RBI single and a walk followed. Gagne finally recorded the first out on a tapper back to the mound. He actually bobbled the ball and only got the out because it happened to be Kevin Millar plodding to first. Aubrey Huff, another lefty, then doubled to right to bring the Orioles within one. That finally got Okajima into the game -- now against a righty -- and an RBI grounder through the infield tied it. The Orioles ended up winning in the bottom of the ninth. Had the Red Sox gone Okajima/Jonathan Papelbon or even Okajima/Gagne, it likely would have been an easy win. Instead, Francona defied all logic, simply because Gagne was acquired to be The Eighth Inning Guy.

wtf was red sox thinking to get a gagne?? When Gagne was in Tex, he fucked me up at least 2, maybe 3 times... so today, even though I didn't place my bet on this game, since I live in Boston I wanted to watch Gagne pitch...and he fucking gives up 4 runs to tie the game to Baltimore...Gagne just sucks so bad...I don't know what potential Francona sees from Gagne

I heard all of the trade rumors, and I said the sox are after WHO??? Okajima and Papelbon have both been LIGHTS OUT all year. Most of the time making it effectively a 7 inning game. NOo to mention Manny Delcarmen, Timlin, and now Tavarez are both very capable in the 7th. I did not understand this trade at all.

Money and trade pieces could have been used more effectively in othe places.

gagne is a garbage pitcher anymore. lets not forget he was throwing in texas before where they were pretty much losers in every game and there was no pressure, now he comes to a team in the hunt and hes garbage. tell the kid to start juicing again. fukin cost me big time tonite. i hope he dies of an overdose. yea i am bitter. hes fuked me twice now in his two appearances in boston.

And so it goes......

His best days are behind him. Boston will continue to have more 8th innings like last night if they continue to use him. He is not the same dominating pitcher he once was. Why people still seem to beilieve that is beyond me. The bridge to Papelbon is not a solid one.

Gagne - that sorry ass ex-Ranger pc of crap.

When I saw him come in, I said "Oh my God", rally-killing machine.

This dick, with his goggles, should be traded again, to Taiwan.

What a mistake by coach-Skoal. Then, let him pitch to Vlad. SOB.

~ugh~
