Look at the WHIP on Vanden! He has also given up 9 homers in 51 innings. That means 1 HR for every six innings pitched. The odds are that he will give up at least one today. With the Mets' line-up, probably more. The last time he faced the Mets on April 19 he gave up 8 ER in 4 innings! He has given up more than 3 ER in six of his last 10 starts. He has given up 35 walks in 51 innings! Reyes will walk today, Reyes will steal bases today, Reyes will score today.

Perez: the last time he faced the Marlins on May 2, he gave up 1 ER over 5.2 innings. The last time he faced a team with a losing record (like the Marlins) was against Pitt on July 26. On that day he pitched a shutout over six innings. Today he gets the Shea crowd behind him.

Mets are scoring 5.8 runs per game over last 10 compared to Marlins' 4.1. Over the last 10 games Mets are batting .306 vs righties. Marlins are batting .267 vs lefties.

The Mets are gunning for the World Series. Will they allow themselves to be swept by the Marlins with a pitcher like Vanden Hurk? No, they will not.

As if it matters, here's this: these guys have pitched almost the same number of innings and Peavy has given up 117 hits compared to Arroyo's 163. Peavy has given up four HR, Arroyo has given up 14! Lights out on Reds today.
