Atlanta +1.06 over PHILADELPHIA
The Phillies chances of beating the Braves aren’t very good when anyone not named Hamels is on the mound. Atlanta’s offense is second to nobody in the NL and perhaps the whole league and they’ve been swinging some hot sticks for the past dozen games. Over that stretch they’ve scored an eye-opening 91 runs while batting a combined .368 it’s no coincidence that they starting heating up about the same time Mark Texeira joined the squad. The Braves are feeling it and watching them you get the sense that they know they’re going to pass everyone and make the playoffs. Buddy Carlyle has been rock solid over the past six weeks. In fact, he’s 6-1 with a 3.21 ERA over his last eight starts and the best part about him is that he throws strikes. Jamie Moyer needs no introduction, as he’s been around for about 40 years. Moyer will usually keep his team in the game and give them a chance to win. However, his ERA is still 4.70 and this edition of the Braves is not like the one he faced earlier in the year. The Braves can rip apart anyone Moyer is certainly not exempt, nor is the very shaky Phillies pen. Lastly, Chase Utley is out, Shane Victorino is likely out also and Aaron Rowand is nursing a very sore shoulder and he may not go either. The Phiilies are not the same without Utley and Victorino and even if Rowand does go and the fact that we can take-back a tag on the Braves today is as sweet as it gets. Jump on this one early. Play: Atlanta +1.06 (Risking 2 units).

Milwaukee –1.02 over HOUSTON
Nothing like a trip to Houston to get right-sided; just ask the Brewers. Milwaukee came limping into this series with just four wins in its last 15 games but back-to-back wins here in rather dramatic fashion should have them amped for this one. Besides, Woody Williams hasn’t won consecutive games since last year and chances are he won’t accomplish that today. Williams has allowed 165 hits and 25 jacks in 145 innings this season and in three August appearances the league has hit .333 off him. He comes in with a 6-12 record and a 5.12 ERA. The Brewers will counter with Claudio Vargas and he’s been a little shaky recently but no way does he take a backseat to Williams. Furthermore, the Brewers have won 15 of his 20 starts this season and that’s significant. So, what we have here is a pumped up visitor with the superior team and pitcher that’s playing a dejected Astro team that can make any pitcher in this league look like Sandy Koufax. Cheap lay indeed. Play: Milwaukee –1.02 (Risking 2.04 units to win 2).

NY Yankees –1½ +1.05 over CLEVELAND
We see absolutely no reason to back off the Yankees now against this beat up Indians team. The Tribe has won just five of their past 14 games and have been completely destroyed in the first two games of this series. We mentioned yesterday how it’s a bloody miracle that the Indians record is as good as it is because this is a very average baseball team with a poor defense, bats that have gone silent, a brutal bullpen and two quality starters and Jake Westbrook isn’t one of them. Remember, Cleveland went 78-84 last season and in mid-August they were 15 games below .500 and this year’s club is virtually the same one. The Indians have played way over their heads thus far but are now being exposed for what they really are. Jake Westbrook has just three wins in 15 starts and while he’s pitched much better in his last three starts, it came against the White Sox, Twins and Texas, not exactly the cream of the crop. The Yanks are coming into this game as the hottest team in the majors and psychologically they know they’re going to win this one and the Tribe know they’re going to lose. Play: NY Yankees –1½ +1.05 (Risking 2 units).

P.S.
Hope some of you cashed on my 11-1 boxing underdog yesterday.
