I had forgotten this fact of Reggie Jackson's 3 home run game.....
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Each of Jackson's blasts came on his first swing, and each was hit off of a different pitcher. (Since Jackson had hit a home run in his final plate appearance of Game 5, and had walked on four straight pitches in his first plate appearance of Game 6, that meant he had hit four World Series home runs on four consecutive swings of the bat - a record not likely ever to be broken.)
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Can anyone find us some film of that night game in Yankee Stadium? If my memory isnt totally shot, am thinking the second one he hit was a screaming low line drive into the right center seats that got out of the park in about 3 seconds. The 3rd one was the gorilla shot to center, and it got a lot of press, but one of those first two was impressive!

Thanks

found this recap on the MLB site.....

This was the day New York had been waiting for. Ever since the Yankees signed Reggie Jackson to a huge five-year contract in November of 1976, the brash slugger wielded a mouth as big as his bat. He was a dynamic offensive force for the 1977 pennant-winning squad, and his colorful quotes drew as much, if not more attention than his on-field play.
All of that changed when the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers rolled around. Jackson started slowly, but homered in Games 4 and 5 as the Bombers took a 3-2 Series lead. As it turned out, the big-swinging outfielder was just getting started.
Jackson walked his first time up in the second inning against L.A.'s Burt Hooton. When Jackson faced Hooton again in the fourth, he swung at the first pitch and lined it into the right field stands, a two-run shot that gave the Yankees a 4-3 lead and knocked the Dodger starter from the game.
Elias Sosa fared no better when he faced Jackson in the fifth. With a runner on first again, the slugger duplicated his previous inning's work by sending the first pitch on an express run into the right field stands. By now, the raucous fans were sensing victory and demanding their star to take a curtain call, but Reggie shrugged it off.
Instead, he came out for a dramatic encore in the eighth. Reliever Charlie Hough was in to try his hand at shutting down a blistering-hot Jackson, but his attempt was futile as Reggie crushed a slow knuckler like a cracked piñata.
His third home run on three pitches was the most gargantuan of the night, a 450-foot missle to the empty black bleacher seats in deep center, and it simultaneously broke the backs of the Dodgers and cemented Reggie Jackson's reputation as New York's new postseason star. Not even Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio or Mantle had achieved what Reggie did on that night: three home runs in one game and five overall, both World Series records. This time, with the Yankees up 8-3 and on the cusp of their first Series victory since 1962, Jackson came out of the dugout to pump his fists and acknowledge to the crowd that he finally delivered what he had promised. And though they chanted his name from the highest rows of the stands, the hero of the 1977 Fall Classic would soon be known by a new name: "Mr. October."

Couldnt find anything, I tried.

Was Reggie really as sensitive as they portray him to be on 'The Bronx is burning' ?!

3 home runs in one game. That is probably one of the biggest single game achievements a player can have, to do it in the world series that is just amazing.

This is his third of the game.
His swing was so sweet his knee would scrape the dirt.

Corrrect, the second shot was blistered into right field , kind of a sinking liner that was hit so hard it found the seats.

and the last one , fittingly, was a majestic blast to center that bounced off those famous black seats...this was one of the greatest moments in baseball history.

Thinking back, that second one must have had either some topspin on it, or no spin, causing it to sink, like you said.

I was never a big Reggie Jackson fan, but that day was memorable. You had to like the way he just seemed to "show up" in October and win key games, like that world series in game 6.

Who cares about when HR's were hit...his performance was definitley a great moment in baseball history, even greater than Maz hitting a walk-off hr in the 1960 World Series...:toast:

Being an Orioles fan from the 70's and 80's I can guaran-damn-tee you Reggie hit plenty of clutch homers and drove in plenty of big runs.

He carried NY on his back , especially in 80....We did everything we could to catch NY but Reggie was just that good that yr..

F Billy Martin, he ruined an entire pitching staff in Oakland single handidly.

Exactly. And those of us who were Orioles fans know how great Reggie was in '76 for the Birds. If he wasn't such an a-hole and didn't hold out, the Orioles would have won the AL East that year going away. Anyone who thinks that Reggie Jackson wasn't one of the greatest clutch hitters of all time is either too young to remember, or wasn't paying attention.

what clutch hits, historic hits? the bat i remember from reggie in '76, was him striking out w/runners on and 2 outs in the 9th vs rookie bob welch.

maz's world series winning hr vs anything reggie did is a joke.

Classic match-up Welch the rookie vs. Jackson, great moment...but cmon 3 HR's in a world series game, it doesn't get any better...And in my opinon if Maz makes an out, he never gets to the Hall of Fame....:toast:

huge, huge hr by maz & you're right, he prob doesn't get into the hof w/o it.

the last gm of the '78 series, dodgers again, in chavez ravine. yanks are the dog in game 6 & i got the yanks and the big price. yanks are killing them and in reggie's last at bat he comes up w/two on and the yanks up 6 or 7 runs; and he's facing bob welch. reggie swings from his heels and hits a bomb for 3 more runs. still remember the sweet money i won that day. but my point is, the whole mr. october thing is way overrated.
