i mean, i think everyone would agree that his numbers before he started roiding were good enough for the hall of fame. then, in 1999, he ballooned up and his numbers got ridiculous. on paper, the biggest no-brainer hall of famer of alltime...even more so than ripken.

but...

everyone knows he cheated and, the writers are the ones who vote on this. a bet a good percentage of writers hate his ass and there are some who will never vote for him because he cheated. can you imagine? the homerun king with tons of stolen bases, mvps, gold-gloves, obp through the roof...not in hall of fame?

i think it could happen. it would be the ultimate slap in that huge face not to get into the hall.

btw, i dont think mcgwire, palmiero or sosa get in either.

if he is indicted of something , then he will not get in.

other than that , he is a 1st ballot.

It depends if he gets indicted and/or convicted for perjury.

If so, all bets are off. If not, he still may have trouble if the Mitchell report is very bad. As you say, he was a lock HOFer before the steroids, so there's no question he deserves to get in. But it may present a dilemma if they keep McGwire and Sosa out. Will be interesting.

only if someone waives a dirty syringe around. I do, however, think there is a very real chance that enough people will withhold votes during his first opportunity that he may have to wait a year. For various reasons (i) he is such an ass hole that some voters are bound to do it out of spite; (ii) some guys simply don't vote for anyone first ballot, which is ridiculous; and (iii) the roids.

funny you should mention it. I have a $1000 to win $1000 that he gets in frist ballet. and $1000 risking $10,000 that he gets in within 20 years of his retire data.

Any writer who doesn't vote for Bonds on the 1st ballot should have his voting privileges taken away for life IMO.

There are a lot of stupid voters. You have to remember they aer sanctimonious writers. 9 guys really thought Aaron wasn't worthy? 16 for Schmidt? 9 for Brett? What's the point of not voting for someone first ballot if they are a no doubt HOFer? Idiots making a point and there will be many that do that with Bonds. They will have one of 3 points to make.

Through 2006, 102 players have been elected by the BBWAA.
  • Tom Seaver received the highest percentage of votes (98.84%).
  • Nolan Ryan received the highest number of votes (491).
  • Ty Cobb was left off the fewest ballots (4).

These guys are among the stupidest people on the planet in my book. How they keep their position as voters baffles me.
