Very interesting study. Quite similar to the one done about the NBA several weeks ago and widely reported in the media. Haven't seen any major media reports about this one yet (save for a few bloggers, one msnbc story and science daily) but to me it seems logical that the same theory could be applied to MLB as was applied to NBA. Measuring things like this in baseball is inherently easier, simply because there are so many more statistics which are so much more carefully measured, and there is less room for extraneous influences. Batter versus pitcher is a very pure form of competition, unlike a 10 person basketball game.
I know we will get lots of idiots in here spouting about the study, just like we did with the NBA one...which, by the way, has so far not been disproven, and the NBA even released its own statistics which for the most part supported the initial study!...but hopefully we can get some interesting discussion too.
Please, please, please, read the study before you comment, or at the very least, the FAQ :toast:
