For those that are making the trek to the Bash, thought I would pass along a little dining info. Keep in mind these are only the restaurants within Planet Hollywood and the Miracle Mile Shops (formerly Aladdin and Desert Passage Shops). For those that aren't familiar, the Miracle Mile Shops surround the casino and are within the entire Planet Hollywood complex.
There are literally hundreds of restaurants within walking distance of the host hotel as well.

Within the Planet Hollywood:

Spice Market Buffet- consistently rated in the top of Vegas buffets. I have not eaten there since PH took over, but did enjoy it when it was the Aladdin. I don't suspect they have changed much and it is a HUGE upgrade over last year.

Planet Dailies- PH's coffee shop. Recently remodeled and features a bazillion plasma TVs showing either sports or entertainment shows. I sampled it late-night last month and had an outstanding chicken chipotle sandwich and cone of fries. Service was a little slow, but I attributed that to the brand newness. The coffee shop also serves Pink's hot dogs of Los Angeles fame.

P.F. Chang's- the chain Chinese restaurant is at the front of the casino. If you have eaten at one in your area, you know what to expect.

Now for the slightly bad news. PH is in the process of redoing all the rest of their restaurants in the hotel. That means new reincarnations of steakhouse (Strip House of NYC), sushi (Koi of LA/Bangkok), Italian (Alfredo's of Rome), sandwich shop (Earl of Sandwich), and Yolo's (?). The person I spoke with said they would not be open until mid-September, not in time for either Bash.

but.....

There are a plethora of dining options in the Miracle Mile Shops:

Starbucks- no explanation needed

Aromi D'Italia- casual Italian, paninni's, salads, gelato, etc.

Asia- upscale Asian eatery that turns into a club on weekends, was formerly Prana of S.F. Crustacean fame for those foodies, but has recently changed.

Blondie's- sports bar with multitude of TV's and free-flowing beer. Never stopped in here, but I see often they advertise some all-you-can-drink Happy Hour specials. I suspect some RXers may end up congregating here when they get tired of the casino scene and it's pricey drinks.

Cheeseburger in Paradise- chain burger joint. A decent hangover lunch place. Ate there once and the burgers were average at best. Better burger options around (Fatburger, Burger Brasserie, Burger Bar).

La Salsa- chain Mexican restaurant. Decent food and mucho grande margaritas. Sadly Vegas lacks real good Mexican restaurants and I find myself here every few months.

Lombardi's Romagna Mia- Italian casual eatery, next to Blondie's. Open for Lunch. Never tried, but looks reasonable.

Merchant's Harbor Coffee House- decent breakfasts and a place I imagine will be the morning after a long night of heavy drinking place to go. I can already envision TTinCo hovering over their eggs and bacon.

Ocean One Bar and Grille- this place has been 3 or 4 different restaurants in the past few years. Have no real info on it.

Oyster Bay Seafood and Wine Bar- looks like a dozen clam or oyster place with a few beers or glasses of Chardonnay.

Pampas Charrascaria- Brazilian steakhouse. That means rodizio-style. Meat, meat, and more meat. Great for gorging, but heavy on the stomach.

Sbarro- chain mall-style Italian food. Likely we've all seen or been to one.

Tacone- casual Mexican and Daquiri bar. Always tempted to try this place when I pass by, but never have.

Todai- Sushi and seafood buffet. If you like your sushi in mass quantities and vast selection this is the place to be. Quality not that upscale, but plenty of food.

Two drink only places are in the Miracle Mile as well:

Fat Tuesday- Daiquiri bar

Sin City Brewing Co.- micro-brewed beer bar and merchandise.

From what I can see there are four bars within Planet Hollywood:

Extra Lounge- for some reason themed after Extra TV show. Mark Philippoussis has been hosting some show he's on there recently. They have piano entertainment as well.

Heart Bar- in the center of the casino, think Hard Rock center bar that everyone is trying to emulate. Pam Anderson is here virtually every night along with her magician friend Hans Klok trying to hawk tickets to their show in the theater. Drinks are a little pricey for my taste ($6 beers, $9 rum and coke).

The Living Room- haven't actually seen this bar, but they have it listed on their site. Don't know if it's open or any more info.

Sports Bar- next to the newly remodeled race and sports book. I was pleasantly surprised by their remodel job and glad it is open for Bash #1. Don't know the drink ticket situation or comp drinks, but am reasonably sure this is will be a good meeting place for Rxers.

There are several clubs in the Miracle Mile shops as well. I'm not much of a clubgoer so I really am not going to even get into their names or what they are about. Those that are interested can seek them out.

Sadly, PH closed my all-time favorite restaurant in the Miracle Mile when they took over (Commander's Palace). There are rumors that CP will reopen in the new Venetian hotel next year. They are replacing it with a Hawaiian Tropic restaurant, but I don't think it will be open on time either.

Excellent information, GD.

Semi hi-jack: can you provide info about IP's airport shuttle schedule? Is it every xx minutes (from/to airport to IP) or something I need to call/e-mail IP about for their shuttle to appear at the airport when we arrive?

I come in 10:20pm PDT Wed night, so didn't know if the airport shuttle would still be running at that time.

Calvin,
The shuttles aren't hotel exclusive. They will go to several different places and load up. At least that is the case with the ones I have seen go to the IP.
As long as the cab line isn't too long, it is best just to take that. Make sure they take you via Swenson and don't take you through the tunnel. If they do that, it tacks on an extra $10 and is not necessary.
It will likely be around $10-$15 at that time of night to the hotel, no more than $20.
Not much more than the shuttle and it won't take you an hour or two to get there.

One of my friends who lives in vegas said there was a bar in the PH complex that serves 3 for 1's all the time, or maybe just regularly. Could have been Blondie's, anyone confirm?

GD thanks for all the info, much appreciated.

GD,

any good indian restaurants in town?

Yes, I don't remember it's name (and I'm too lazy to look it up) but it's on Paradise between Flamingo and Twain and right next to the Ruth Chris restaurant(any cabbie will know where that is).

If you arent driving take a cab. Best bet is to get 4 in a cab. Should be under 15. It was 10 when I drove years ago...when that was the Alladin.

I'm thinking the name of it is Gandhi. There are two near each other there, one across from Terrible's and one in the Ruth Chris' shopping center. If you go over that way, make sure to check out Firefly. It is a tapas restaurant and one of the hottest restaurants in the city. I take family there when they come in town.

There is also an Indian restaurant in the Rio. Those restaurants are somewhat revolving doors over there, but this place was supposed to be top-notch when it went in there.

In all honesty, outside of Gandhi for a lunch buffet I haven't had much Indian food in this town.

No mention of the Nestle Tollhouse Shop?

Good place to eat a few dozen cookies and then do what the jockeys do.

True,
I did leave that out. Good catch ITP. I think there is a Pretzel shop there as well.
