For those that are making the trek to the Bash, thought I would pass along a little dining info. Keep in mind these are only the restaurants within Planet Hollywood and the Miracle Mile Shops (formerly Aladdin and Desert Passage Shops). For those that aren't familiar, the Miracle Mile Shops surround the casino and are within the entire Planet Hollywood complex.
There are literally hundreds of restaurants within walking distance of the host hotel as well.
Within the Planet Hollywood:
Spice Market Buffet- consistently rated in the top of Vegas buffets. I have not eaten there since PH took over, but did enjoy it when it was the Aladdin. I don't suspect they have changed much and it is a HUGE upgrade over last year.
Planet Dailies- PH's coffee shop. Recently remodeled and features a bazillion plasma TVs showing either sports or entertainment shows. I sampled it late-night last month and had an outstanding chicken chipotle sandwich and cone of fries. Service was a little slow, but I attributed that to the brand newness. The coffee shop also serves Pink's hot dogs of Los Angeles fame.
P.F. Chang's- the chain Chinese restaurant is at the front of the casino. If you have eaten at one in your area, you know what to expect.
Now for the slightly bad news. PH is in the process of redoing all the rest of their restaurants in the hotel. That means new reincarnations of steakhouse (Strip House of NYC), sushi (Koi of LA/Bangkok), Italian (Alfredo's of Rome), sandwich shop (Earl of Sandwich), and Yolo's (?). The person I spoke with said they would not be open until mid-September, not in time for either Bash.
but.....
There are a plethora of dining options in the Miracle Mile Shops:
Starbucks- no explanation needed
Aromi D'Italia- casual Italian, paninni's, salads, gelato, etc.
Asia- upscale Asian eatery that turns into a club on weekends, was formerly Prana of S.F. Crustacean fame for those foodies, but has recently changed.
Blondie's- sports bar with multitude of TV's and free-flowing beer. Never stopped in here, but I see often they advertise some all-you-can-drink Happy Hour specials. I suspect some RXers may end up congregating here when they get tired of the casino scene and it's pricey drinks.
Cheeseburger in Paradise- chain burger joint. A decent hangover lunch place. Ate there once and the burgers were average at best. Better burger options around (Fatburger, Burger Brasserie, Burger Bar).
La Salsa- chain Mexican restaurant. Decent food and mucho grande margaritas. Sadly Vegas lacks real good Mexican restaurants and I find myself here every few months.
Lombardi's Romagna Mia- Italian casual eatery, next to Blondie's. Open for Lunch. Never tried, but looks reasonable.
Merchant's Harbor Coffee House- decent breakfasts and a place I imagine will be the morning after a long night of heavy drinking place to go. I can already envision TTinCo hovering over their eggs and bacon.
Ocean One Bar and Grille- this place has been 3 or 4 different restaurants in the past few years. Have no real info on it.
Oyster Bay Seafood and Wine Bar- looks like a dozen clam or oyster place with a few beers or glasses of Chardonnay.
Pampas Charrascaria- Brazilian steakhouse. That means rodizio-style. Meat, meat, and more meat. Great for gorging, but heavy on the stomach.
Sbarro- chain mall-style Italian food. Likely we've all seen or been to one.
Tacone- casual Mexican and Daquiri bar. Always tempted to try this place when I pass by, but never have.
Todai- Sushi and seafood buffet. If you like your sushi in mass quantities and vast selection this is the place to be. Quality not that upscale, but plenty of food.
Two drink only places are in the Miracle Mile as well:
Fat Tuesday- Daiquiri bar
Sin City Brewing Co.- micro-brewed beer bar and merchandise.
