Hope you don't mind if I join the party...i actually think he doesn't go on the PUP and plays maybe not week 1...but shortly there after.

Update:
Despite reports that Jones (foot) is bound for the regular season PUP list, offensive coordinator Mike Martz is optimistic that Jones will be able to return by Week 1, the Detroit News reports.

Recommendation:
Jones, who is working out and doing individual drills, needs to be able to go all out in practice before we start buying into Martz's optimism however. In the meantime, Tatum Bell is the starting tailback with T.J. Duckett, Aveion Cason and Brian Calhoun working behind him.

Pitch in all you want. Anything that anyone posts just makes my job easier and I appreciate it.

From what I've heard, the Lions are saying they hope he's ready for week one, but him missing 5-6 games seems much more realistic. Tatum Bell will get the starts in the mean time.

Now Yahoo is reporting Jones will be ready for week 1 with Rotoworld reporting Jones is going to start on the PUP list and miss the first 6 games. Hard to tell who is right...

LOCAL PAPER, ALWAYS BEST PLACE TO GET INSIGHT (IMO)

Martz 'optimistic' RB Jones will play in Lions opener
August 16, 2007

BY NICHOLAS J. COTSONIKA

FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER

Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz is optimistic running back Kevin Jones will return for the regular-season opener Sept. 9 at Oakland.

"I think we're all optimistic about that," Martz said Wednesday. "I think Kevin is, too. We'll see. It doesn't mean he is. He's making good progress, and we're all anxious to have him back."

Jones is on the physically unable to perform list with a foot injury. Asked when Jones would have to start practicing to be ready, Martz said:

"I don't know. You can't plan this stuff. You just cannot plan it. What (we) have to do is wait. When you get him back, then you take it one step at a time, because as soon as you start making these plans, these plans always get broken."

ALLEN PARK -- Offensive coordinator Mike Martz said he expects running back Kevin Jones to be ready for the Lions' season opener against Oakland, but he won't return immediately as a starter.

"He has to come back and compete for his job like anybody else," Martz said on the final day of two-a-days Wednesday. "Nobody has a stake on anything. It's like everywhere else. You've got to come back and get back in football shape and compete with the rest of the backs for that spot."
