Well they can hit (6th in BA, 2nd in OBP), but power in their starting lineup and hitting off their bench are definitely their two biggest issues. Hope you're wrong.

Pitching wins, period. But the Sox offense has been weak and Dave ortiz is not getting it done for who he is. Funny thing is, his numbers are pretty decent overall but not much power or clutch at all this year. Drew is a joke. GREAT RACE ALL OVER. Love baseball!!!!!

I think the problem is that Ortiz is a fat piece of crap. The rest of the team saw him as Mr. Clutch and thought to themseleves, we have to be fat pieces of crap too.

absolute brilliance:puppy:

Truly, especially when they have three guys on pace for 100+ RBI's, a shortstop leading all AL SS's in RBI's and two guys on pace for 35+ stolen bases........all this made better by being surrounded by the absolute best pitching staff in the league and two gold glovers on the corners and behind the plate.

Quit trying to make Lugo something hes not the guy blows!!
Just think if Cabrera Rentiria Jeter Tejada H. Ramirez or 90% of all shortstops
were on the Sox theyd have waybetter #s.
You may be a Sox fan but get with reality

It's not so easy being in 1st place is it? The Sox aren't used to the pressure of having the division lead coming down the stretch, can't function without the underdog mentality! Luckly everyone in the "red sox nation" will understand and be forgiving when they drop back to 2nd and hopefully grab the wildcard. But as we saw last year, they're ok with 3rd place too.

As a Yanks fan, it's fun after 15 years to finally have the shoe on the other foot and be breathing down someone's neck with 6 weeks to go!

Is that the jinx of having someone with more hits, home runs (by 19 so far), and rbi's than anyone on the entire red sox team? We'll try to stomach that one.

Can't wait for October when all of Boston can start talking about the Patriots and dreamy Tom Brady to get their minds off this collapse.

You were the same AHoles who wanted Arod GONE.....now you are quoting his stats. Wait til Georgie Porgie is no longer there and the Evil Empire won't spend the Cake...better develop more talent like Jobba the Hut.
Ortiz has not had as good of a year as last--but latley has had 2 clutch hits that should have won games--not his fault Tito continues to put in that piece of crap Gagne.

Ortiz had a nice weekend against the Angles so hopefully his shoulder and knees are feeling better. Manny also had some clutch late inning hits. What concerns me is that there are to many holes in the line up and until Manny and Ortiz produce on a consistent basis there isn't anyone that you really fear in the line up.

Lugo has been hitting much better lately and I hope he continues. JD Drew ablsolutely blows. Its like having an automatic out whenever he comes up.

JD is absolutely WORTHLESS
Coco/Lugo/Cora and now Youk are all hit and miss any given night.
I think the catcher's spot in the order has been terrible over the past year and a half.
Manny/Ortiz/Lowell will take care of themselves
Dustin has been a def surprise.
Problem I have is that they KEEP falling behind. All weekend and even ag TB they were playing from behind.
Bully needs to right the ship and Gagne was shaky even yesterday. I used to cringe when i saw Timlin coming in--now I am that way with Snyder.
Ths has been the Red Sox Division to lose--if they do its on them....

Pedroia's bat continues to amaze me. If I was a Sox fan, he'd probably be my favorite player. I really believe the Sox wouldn't even be in the wildcard race without him and Okajima coming out of NOWHERE as great additions this year.

As a Yanks fan, I'll also acknowledge that the Sox speed is a potent weapon. Lugo and Crisp are pretty much garaunteed SB's when they want them. If I'm not mistaken it was a stolen base in game 4 of the ALCS against mariano that lead directly to the tying or winning run being scored.
