Right-hander Clay Buchholz, who has an 8-3 record and a 2.15 ERA in the minor leagues this season, is scheduled to start for the Boston Red Sox on Friday in the first game of a day-night doubleheader against the Los Angeles Angels.

Buchholz, who is averaging nearly 13 strikeouts per nine innings in 22 minor league games this season, will become the ninth pitcher to start a game for the Red Sox this season.

The 23-year-old Buchholz was 7-2 with a 1.77 ERA in 16 games with Double-A Portland before being promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket. There, he was -1 with a 3.26 ERA in six starts.

Buchholz was the 42nd player selected in the 2005 draft, a sandwich pick Boston received when Pedro Martinez signed with the New York Mets.
Right-hander John Lackey (15-7) is scheduled to start for the Angels. Game 2 of the four-game weekend series Friday will pit Boston's Josh Beckett (15-5) against the Angels' Ervin Santana (5-11).

Lackey's results have been as consistent as anyone the past 3 years , not good vs Boston where he's been consistently poor (1-5) 5.75 ERA.

This Buchholz looks real good.

A little early but he has got some nice pitches. Good curve and moving fastball with a nice delivery. Always need good pitching!

Great shit for the M's. About to pick up a half game and then hopefully a full game later tonight when Beckett goes against the struggling Santana. Big night for the M's in the making.

No Gagne today. Francona is brining in Paps after Okie in the 8th. GOod move. Every game is big and Gagne is struggling.

Mariners hanging tough Addict. I am rooting for them. Love that leadoff hitter and closer.

Now 8-4 Sox in the 8th. No need to waste Papelbon in game 1. Yeah Tom, everyone is still shocked that the team has played this well for this long. Like you read everywhere on the net, no one knows how were winning but you have to give credit where credit is due. It's going to be a hell of a September, especially starting it off with a 3 game set in the Bronx.

Red Sox should do a bullpen by committee on Sunday.........starting Snyder..........

That way the Red Sox can have Wakefield throw vs TB @ Tropicana Field where he is virtually unbeatable.

That actually is a very good idea. They will not do it though. Rarely do they skip in he rotation. They should though when it is warrented. Like here!

"The Red Sox drafted Buchholz, who turned down offers to play wide receiver at Texas, Notre Dame, Purdue and Texas A&M, with a pick they obtained as compensation when they lost free agent Pedro Martinez to the Mets. " - AP
