Wakefield is 9-3 in his last 12 starts dating to June 12. Against the Devil Rays, he has been simply dominant. His career record against Tampa is 18-2, with a 2.83 ERA. Those numbers at Tropicana Field: 8-0, 2.33.

from my thread...............

Been riding Wakefield in domes all year.

At tropicana in his career:

8-0
2.33 ERA
1.07 WHIP
.190 BAA

versus Tampa Bay

18-2
2.83 ERA
1.09 WHIP
.210 BAA

unfortunately, Kazmir is the opponent who has been on fire and just shutout the sox for 6 innings at fenway giving up only 4 hits. two weeks before that he shut them out for 6 at tropicana.

in kazmir's last 7 starts, he is:

4-1
1.00 ERA

this year against the sox (in 3 games) he has an ERA of 2.00

i'm going with a medium sized play on the sox, as kazmir usually gets yanked after 6 innings, and we all know about their pen.

going with a huge play on the 1st 5 innings under when the line comes out.

follow, fade, or forget!

boston struggles in tampa and has problems offensively on the road...kaz lost by 1 in fenway....wake's historical success is what makes this line a pick em

and the lines that jump out at you like " boston -102" are typically sucker lines anyway

gimme kaz at home

Other than Webb and perhaps Oswalt, not sure there is a hotter pitcher right now than Kazmir. I agree with Gyno though, the bullpen sucks and will probably be the difference. They usually only throw him 6/7 innings as his pitch counts can get high pretty quickly, he has a tendency to work deep in counts. He's still a stud though, the club is 15-11 when he starts, that's on a team that is 30 games below .500, they are 46-76 overall! He always gives them a chance to win, not easy on a club like this. Tampa is a weak hitting team, a club that has led the league in errors most the year, and easily the worst bullpen in baseball. They have blown leads of his all year, last game was a perfect example. He's up 1-0 when he leaves and Rays give up 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to lose. In fact his last 7 starts going back to middle of July, look at the earned runs he has given up:

That 3 which was his worst game, he lost 3-0 to Bedard as the offense never scored a run for him, that was his only loss in those 7 games. Not bad for a team the quality of Tampa. Anyway I am still pretty much thinking Boston will win but it won't come easy with him on the hill. I like the UNDER and maybe a 1st 5 inning play on the Rays, Red Sox probably getting it done late as the bullpen cracks like it always does. Good luck all.

Just got done reading the st pete times, and
kazmir is a little miffed at why he is always
yanked after 6 inings, also in the paper the question
was raised if there was a little arm trouble or stiffness
and the rays just blew it off as trying to save thier stars
arm and looking to future. Take it for what its worth.

Should be no Ortiz or Varitek (likely to be Kevin Cash) in the lineup today, and the player on the Sox with the most career success against Kaz is actually Bobby Kielty (I believe). Can't imagine much scoring in this one.

I think he's like 7-15 against Kaz with 2HR....who do you like in this contest Jibba? Cash is catching for Wakefield tonight.

*** With no Mirabelli, some don't think Wakefield will be as effective. Who knows how many pass balls and free bases. Wakefield may even have to try and not have it move so much.

That, combinied with Kazmir pitching good and a weaker Boston lineup, that's why the line is low. I agree, the Under looks good, except have to worry about things getting sloppy with the knuckleball situation

Well I wouldn't go against the Wakefield trend, but that line seems lower than I would have expected considering Wake's past dominance of TB and his great performances historically in domes. I'm not sure I'll play anything on this one, but the under looks pretty tempting.

Boston at Tampa Bay, 7:10 EST
Tim Wakefield (R) vs. Scott Kazmir (L)
Wakefield: Boston 14-3 SU after scoring 1 or 0 runs
Kazmir: Tampa Bay 6-20 SU off a win by 2 runs or less
