KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Kansas City running back Larry Johnson agreed to a six-year contract extension and joined the Chiefs for practice Tuesday, after having been absent from training camp since it opened July 27.

"It was a long, hard negotiation," general manager Carl Peterson said. "We are very happy to have all our children in camp now." Johnson was in uniform, taking a swing pass from quarterback Brodie Croyle. Chiefs spokesman Bob Moore said Johnson will speak to the media Wednesday.

Johnson has broken the Chiefs' single-season rushing record in each of the past two seasons. He ran for 1,789 yards last year and set an NFL record with 416 carries.
During his holdout, the team fined him more than $19,000 per day.

History will most likely bear this out as a bad sign by the Chiefs. Longevity not a strong point for most top NFL running backs.

he should get paid, the guy is more valuable to his team than anybody in the nfl. Without LT the chargeres are still a good team. Without LJ, KC is the worst team in football.

Disagree. Maybe the worst offense, but not team. This defense will be pretty damn good.

As far as the signing goes, the Chiefs did a pretty good job. He was asking for LT money with around a 26 mill. bonus. Chiefs were offering a bonus of 15. Ended up giving him 19.

BTW, give me under 39 week one. GL.

Was hoping they would wait a few days so he might slide in my fantasy draft tomorrow. Oh well.

I breathed a HUGE sigh of relief since he's my keeper from last year. Here's to Brodie Croyle gettin his shit together come week 1.

He will be gone within 4 years. Hurt, cut, traded, whatever. Too much money for an aging RB. Just look what happened to Travis Henry this year.

Yea, good point. Travis Henry is out 2 weeks or so. Thats a very comparable situation. Also, you don't want to sign aging backs like that. Look at what happened when the Chiefs signed Priest Holmes in his late 20s. What a disaster. Setting the single season TD record- big deal. You're right, they should have just let him go. :103631605

No way he's effective for 6 more years.

More great insight. Thanks. Have you not paid any attention to how contracts are structured in the NFL? Your comment would lead me to believe that you don't.

I think he's the one that finally gave in. The team was at 19 mil in guaranteed money and he was at 23 mil.

He was signed to play this year begin with...hello :ughhh:
Renegotiations happen all the time in the NFL. He said he wasn't budging off 23 and came down to 19. Why are you surprised they decided to pay him? It's not like he signed a 6 year deal last year and then wanted to renegotiate. We don't have a TO case here. A deal was never in doubt.
