i dont buy the argument that they were outpitched tonight. both guys had dominant stuff and both fell victim to atrocious run support and basically no margin for error. baseball is truly fu.cked up like that. two pitchers well deserving of wins tonight took brutal Ls.

Lincecum should have finished the 9th regardless of how many he would have given up.

i think frisco's lack of offense, in a paradoxical way, is what forced bochy to keep lincecum in the game taking his turn at the plate and the runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs when frisco had a chance to add a run. i really think bochy felt the best way to win was 1-0. it didnt happen. but the right moves were made. lincecum just took a brutal L for making two mistakes after being basically perfect for 8 innings.

carmona did not get any run support, but he gave up 2 home runs when the game was tied. he pitched well enough to win, but in this particular game he gave up the runs not a bullpen

Lincecum should have finished the game, how else is a young pitcher going to learn to win a close game, SF is not going anywhere and pitch count was not an issue

Does numbskull Bochey take some of the blame for leaving Lincecum in to pitch the 9th? Thats a lot of pressure to leave a rookie to pitch the 9th. With a 1-0 lead. Way to lose that game Giants.

the run support carmona has received in his last six starts is embarrassing (for the indians hitters). other than the 2 homers, detroit didnt hit a single ball hard all night. but cleveland's offense is beyond pathetic right now. the indians essentially have two #1 starters right now and they are letting dominant starts go to waste.

lincecum had something stupid like 80 pitches going into the 9th. had bochy taken him out, THATS something worth being fired on the spot for. this loss is squarely on the shoulders of the giants pathetic offense.

... and unless i missed something, lincecum wouldnt exactly have been handing the ball off to a putz- or papelbon-esque closer. leaving him is was a no-brainer.

prodigy-

you are right in how well Carmona has pitched, Cleveland's offense has been horrific the last month or so, my only point was that he gave up the HR's in a tie game, he definetly pitched well enough to win, but in a close game especially as playoff time comes, he has to be able to continue to shut the other team down.

your point is definitely valid.

but its just mind-boggling to think that cleveland's offense has 'supported' carmona in his last 6 starts with:

1 run
5 runs (and for most of that game against detroit last week, they did nothing yet again)
1 run
1 run
1 run

with offensive 'support' like that, it makes pitchers like carmona and lincecum feel like they have to go out and be perfect every inning. and thats tough for pitchers in their early 20s to wrap their heads around.

i also think that carmona and lincecum should feel robbed because their offenses failed to put up runs against very mediocre pitchers. jurgenns is a mid-level prospect from double A. and marquis is a fringe major leaguer right now.

I still think the Idiot Bochey should have gotten him out in the 9th. The Cubs had their top of the order comming up. Who have seen him like the 5th time around. Get the Closer in or does SF not trust their closer? Bochey would probably be better off getting the win with his closer in the game.

clevelands offense has been terrible 8-22-2 Under last 22 games. year team batting average is .267 but i'm sure in the last 22 games it is significantly lower. their starters have kept them in the playoff hunt, not the offense that was expected to score a lot in the beginning of the year. only 2 guys in the lineup today over .300 (Martinex and Garko) Hafner has been a major disappointment. i think the pitching has been performing much better than expected, and if the bats don't heat up, Cleveland is going to be in trouble.

the fact that you are referring to him as 'the closer' and not by name tells you all you need to know about frisco's back end of the bullpen. with boston or new york or seattle, its papelbon, wagner, and putz.
... not, 'the closer'. frisco is a mess on the back end.
