Marbury Calls Dogfighting a Sport

NEW YORK (AP) - New York Knicks guard Stephon Marbury defended Michael Vick, calling dogfighting a sport and comparing it to hunting. Marbury spoke Monday about the federal dogfighting conspiracy charges against Vick while promoting his basketball shoe in Albany, N.Y.
"I think it's tough," Marbury said, according to Albany TV station Capital News 9. "I think, you know, we don't say anything about people who shoot deer or shoot other animals. You know, from what I hear, dogfighting is a sport. It's just behind closed doors."
On Monday, Vick said through a lawyer that he will plead guilty to a federal charge of conspiracy to travel in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities and conspiracy to sponsor a dog in an animal fighting venture. He also faces possible prosecution in Virginia.
"I think it's tough that we build Michael Vick up and then we break him down," Marbury said. "I think he's one of the superb athletes, and he's a good human being. I just think that he fell into a bad situation.

Pit bull fighting should be made legal.

Putting Vick in jail is good though, but we will miss him and his horrible Q.B. play on sundays.

Do we drown deer when we hunt them? How about electrocuting them? Is that how you hunt? Dog fighting is awful but what is far worse is that instead of shooting the dogs(as sad as that would be), they tortured them. Marbury is dumb as shit.

In hunting they dont torture the animal by electricuting, hanging, or drowning. Its a ridiculous comparison. Im not into hunting, but there are positives that come from it, including wild life control and is part of the human food chain. To breed dogs to fight, and sit around and gamble on em, and then hang them and torture them if they lose, is a little different then hunting deer. Theres a million other differences. Who here owns a pet deer?

No, we shoot them, make them writhe in agony and then break there necks 10-15 minutes later. That's torture right? In the end result you got a dead animal on your hands either way. The torture doesn't matter because the end result is the same. Either way you do it the animal will suffer, the way you do it just isn't more/less gruesome.

Hey I'm not big on hunting either. Except for Canadian Geese, yet they are protected.

your comparisons lack real substance....this has got to be the 20th time you've made such a weak arguement on the subject matter at hand. Again, there is NO COMPARISON BETWEEN HUNTING AND DOGFIGHTING!!!If they were the same thing we would have laws on the books preventing hunting. It seems, in a roundabout way, you must condone dog fighting otherwise stop trying to justify it by coming up with this weak and unfounded logic.

The one thing that sickens me is that this has turned racial. A black person committs a crime and automatically other blacks defend the person b/c it becomes an "us against them" mentality. They lose sight of the fact a felony was committed. That's why Marbury, Roy Jones, Fred Mcrarey can all go screw themselves. They make themselves look more ignorant then they all already are. They just want to stick up for the guy b/c he is of the same race.
