Assuming the Red Sox hold onto their lead in the east, who will win the wildcard in the AL and why?

seattle is gonna get screwed. they will have more wins than either of the teams in the central yet they'll be sitting home. new york is just pounding the ball and are going to win the wild card on sheer muscle.

That might happen Prodigy, I'm already getting pumped for the huge 3 game set in NY the first week of september. Should be a hell of a series.

screw the yankees series. you should be pumped about the anaheim series next week. if the angels dont get shields fixed very soon, they might be vulnerable enough to let the mariners back in the division.

I was just looking at it from a wildcard stand point. But yes, next Monday through Wendsday will be a very big series at Safeco. Matchups for the series:

Lackey vs Batista
Santana vs Weaver
Weaver vs Hernandez

Pretty fair matchups all around. Wouldve liked to see Jeff vs Jared though.

Well Since you Took the Red Sox out of the Mix.. The Yankees should be the One !! ( they might win the Title ?? )

Like someone else said, They are Hitting a Ton !! and Now I think they even have their Pitching Up to Par as well.

And This KID...Joba Chamberlain !!!!!! HE'S LIGHTS OUT !

I think that the AL East is Going to Be a Classic this Year..Right down to the Wire !!

Yanks are still behind and have some tough games too. Seattle getting no love and playing very well and in the lead. Long way to go but once you get to Sept it is the stretch drive.

Still up hill battle for the Yankees. Seattle has been playing pretty good as well. They are up 3 games (4 in the loss column) and have two games in hand.

Pitching on par to what?

Yankees will miss the playoffs and Seattle or Cleveland will be winning the wild card.

I don't understand why everyone assumes Seattle won't win the West, they have an excellent chance of that.

Agree with this.

Seattle has one of the most underrated lineups, (from 1 to 9), as any in baseball. They rank number 2 in MLB for average, 8th in runs scored, top ten in OBP, and slugging.

They own a terrific bullpen, (ranked 7th in baseball), improving starting staff, (with the emergence of Weaver and Hernandez), and a solid defensive squad.

Playing in the northwest and too late for many to watch their games they have quietly put together a solid season and their confidence level is at a all time high. Seattle has been cash cow throughout this year and I see no reason for that to change.

Seven games left against the Angels and a 9 game road trip to Toronto, New York, and Detroit, (starting next weekend), will tell the story for this team.

Seattle wins the division and Angels take the wild card.
