I'm kind of a Fred Sanford type that saves stuff, probably because my parents were children of the Depression.

You never know when you might need it, and it sucks to buy something you once threw out.

I've tossed a lot of stuff recently. I tossed every VHS tape I owned. I trashed framed baby pictures of myself.... am I supposed to carry these for life ?

I had baby pictures of my older A-hole brother.... basura !

Some shit breaks my heart, like my father in WW2 Army uniform... have to keep that !

I save stuff like misc. screws and nails and stuff in a gigantic iron tub, and cut-off pieces of lumber, like 30 inches left of an 8' length of 1X12 pine, I often find a use for such stuff.

Are you guys collectors or tossers ?

Good topic.

I have a buddy that is a serious collector/pack rat. Seeing how he lives is motivation for me to sharpen my tossing skills.

I am more of a tosser than collector. I also have a couple of VHS tapes I keep thinking I will have converted to a CD. I have a shed full of tools I never use. Why? Because I might need them at some point in the future, I guess. Have a bunch of moving boxes from years ago. They don't take up much space, but they would be handy if I have to move. Also have a bunch of boxes from electronics (tv, stereo, monitor).

Clothes are one thing I often toss. Buy something new and toss something old.

I have a lot of redundant tools, I must have about 100 + screwdrivers, some actually antiques, I have a lot of real old tools that belonged to my father, I even use quite a few of them regurarly.

You never even really know how much useless stuff you have stored around until you decide to move. Surprising how easily you can throw away stuff you thought you needed.

I lot of my stuff is "in case I need it"...that gets tossed in a move, but I get what you mean.

Yea I save everything and when I force myself to throw something away, I actually feel kind of sad. Partly because I might need it and partly because it may have memories or something

I'll tell you whats hard to get rid of. I have four kids. When they make something for you or anything they have made in school it's hard to just throw it away. I have a drawer that is so stuffed full of things my kids have given me I couldn't imagine throwing any of it away.

I tossed a lot of "ol ladies" and got tossed by one!

T-Shirts........got a ton! Looked good on me a few years back but, not now. Part of my history, like a photo.
Tough to throw that away.

Most of "your" treasures are only yours.
Anyone else with toss 'em!

hilarious that you mentioned this, becoz I am moving to a smaller house in montreal and will not have a basement there, becoz the basement is a bachelor apartment.

I normally save everything but am letting it all go now, giving it away, throwing it out.

Just today I must have thrown out 300$ worth of phone wires and other cables that are perfectly good but I have not used in years.....

It does feel good to get rid of some of that stuff and live light for sure, but at the same time, next time I need a phone wire I know I will scream at the top of my lungs for throwing them all out.

My wife and I argue about this all the time, she hates clutter.

I have a huge fight with my wife about this several times a year.

Several months ago I went to test drive a KIA car I didnt want to buy becoz they gave you a free satelite radio if you test drove it. I came home, put the certificate on the kitchen counter.

a few days later? where is ? thrown out!!!!!!!!!!

:puppy:

she was always throwing out my greek schedules also.

That is my story entirely.
Kinda got over it in a divorce. Swore that never again would I own more shit than I could pack in a station wagon and leave with. Time passes, had to build a storage building in the back yard so we could park in the garage.

Check out Craig's list. We have a 35 year old house with builtins so they all needed replacing. there are a ton of board people, who cant stand the fact that their appliances don't match. You buy them for nothing.

I sold an estate of a collector. This guy collected everything, sticks, there was a mountain of unpaired shoes, bottles, cans, everything he could find. He was semi-wealthy and bought the property because it had a big barn. He got up at dawn and roamed the streets picking up stuff. the estate payed to have all the junk disposed of. Some people go to extremes.
