I am one of those people that doesnt think anything will hurt me. Probably really stupid. I have actually cut back on my drinking as I used to drink atleast one beverage (some sort of liquor) on weekdays and get drunk on weekends. I have now cut it back to drunk one weekend night, and maybe 2 nights during the week of 1 drink.

I probably need a trip to the hospital to wake me up.

Happened to my mom when she was in her early 40's. I was just a kid but i don't really remember her being drunk alot but there must have been something hidden somewhere. I remember being scared as hell when she was sick. Probably is one of the main reasons why i have never drank. She never touched booze again after the cirrohsis diagnosis and is still here and bitchy as can be 25 years later.

My wife's dad is in Icu right now with complications from booze. Put off going to the doc and now is in real bad shape. Unfortunately, his ending will be alot different then my moms.

Back in the day I had a doctor poking my sides and asked me how much I drink.

She said a 6 pack a day and I said or two and she said she could feel it swollen.

That was 20 years ago, I have since essentially quit drinking as I don;t party with friends like I used to.

Use to be wine women and song now it;s beer the old lady and T.V.

Don't worry about how your liver is doing - actually go find out - blood work will show if you are having elevated enzyme levels.

Just thought I would throw this out for you guys. Only 15% of alcoholics eventually develop alcoholic cirrhosis. Now if you have Hepatitis B or C your hisk is much higher. I see cirrhotic patients all the time and well it sucks. Nonetheless, the fact that 85% of patients that drink enormous amounts of alcohol do relatively well is a testament to the resilience of the liver. Still, alcohol in large quantities can cause multiple other problems including, but not limited to, brain atrophy, gastrits, peptic ulcer disease, prostatic hypertrophy, and predisposes you to certain cancers. Just get checked periodically with your doctor.

I really can not think there are many people out there that have drank more than I have over the last 3 years and I know that I have a problem. I am not thinking AA or anything like that, but do know that I can not continue to abuse my body the way I have and expect to continue to function. I justify it as that I do not drink when I am at home, but the problem there is that I am only home maybe 2 days per month. Recently, I have seen the physical effects (dry heaves in the morning and the shakes) and I plan on cutting down. I have been in a miserable state of mind and I am finally to the end of my jpirney and look forward to righting the ship.

I am a recovering alcoholic/addict who did horrible things to my body in the past. To all appearances I am healthy as a horse right now so I am glad of that. It is a minor miracle. I sometimes wonder if something is going to break down prematurely but all I can do is go on living.

As far as the liver is concerned, I'll add this tip. Acetominophen is really hard on the liver. So if you routinely go for the Tylenol (or, worse, Tylenol with codeine) on the morning after, you are at much greater risk for liver problems.

Pretty solid advice. I took it almost every night for about half a year just to sleep easier. And then I learned how brutal the stuff can be on your liver so I stopped.

If I cant sleep, I cant sleep. Watch a movie or something.
