If so, list the pros and cons......thax.

-fh-

ps- Visited many, many times but no idea what living there would be like, other than the fact it does get quite cold on occassion.

Good to hear from you........

Have always thought about moving somewhere......since the age of 10 or so. Never completely happy in one place for more than 9.4 days....never content. An RV may be in the cards.

At this point, 30-70 on attending the bash.

How is Vegas and more importantly, the Mrs?

Fish,
I bought and read a book from the Gamblers Book Club called "The Diary Of a Football Handicapper". It is completly dated as it was written around 1980 and is about a capper who moves to Reno to bet the CFB season. Pretty interesting but I am sure most things have changed but you may pick a few pointers in there. If anything maybe it gets you more motivated and gets the juices flowing. Email me your address and I will send it to you if you want it.

Through all the goofy thoughts and ideas I have had about starting different businesses, I finally came to the conclusion a few months back that I need to play to my strengths and that is advantage gambling. It is what makes my heart beat and I think you are EXACTLY the same way. Passion is the #1 thing needed to be successfull at anything and this is my passion (and I am pretty sure it is yours too). Make the move and get back into the middle of this. It is where you are meant to be and save me a seat, I hope to be joining you in the next few years.:toast:

Reno's cool for a while. And you can shoot up to Tahoe from there in about an hour. I like the four seasons you get with Reno.

I live 50 miles from Reno, in California. The "new" Reno is building west and north of town, into the mtns, and both sides of highway 80 the last few years. Decent standard of living can be had. Nice homes can be pricey but $375k to $450k gets you a nice 2200 ft. in a good area. Dont know anything about schools, (no kids here).

The thing I dont like is the number of days where the wind whips thru there at 25+ mph! Gets downright cold in winter but 8 months of the year it is pretty nice. Warm 90 degree summers. Downtown undergoing a much needed re-juvination, with old , dead casinos being converted into condos. Indian gaming in California has taken a visible toll on the towns gaming prosperity. But other industry is flourishing due to low( and no) tax structure and cheap labor pool. Some good golf courses, and skiing in area, as well as fishing, and hunting in the state. Lake Tahoe is 1 hr drive in summer, tougher in winter when snow on ground.

Some very nice communitys in small towns south of Reno should be explored too, like Virginia Hills.....Gold Hill, and Minden and Gardnerville (all of which are about halfway between Reno and South Lake Tahoe, but closer to Tahoe. Common elevations are 4800 to 5500 ft. and higher in the surrounding hills of Reno, and property values can fluctuate in a wide range in a short distance.

I've never lived there but had friends the went to UNR and have visited there a gazzilion times being a bay area resident for 22 years.
My friends father retired there and a poker buddy of ours also ended up there after retiring.
They were lured by the low cost of living and no state taxes taken out of pensions.
Don;t know how old you are but I;ve known lots of guys move to Tahoe/Reno and work but never stuck around always coming back but there jobs were casino related.
I ponder retiring there some day but I was there in Nov. and it seems reno is not aging well as downtown looked like bombed out Beruit but as poster above mentioned they are going through a face lift but the view from my room was horrid.
Most locals don;t go downtown anyway.
As far as snow it rarley snows in the Reno basin.
If you are a ski bum then hell Reno is the place as it has the best ski resorts in the nation Squaw and Kirkland are a half hour away.
Sking Tahoe is tits and it's not 20 degrees when your skiing which also keeps the powder from turning into sheets of ice.
I live in Wa. now and I miss the hell out of Tahoe now that I think about it.
