Does anyone know of a website where you can check invoice prices for certain types of cars? I tried edmunds.com and it advertises such a service but I think you have to join up and I don't want to give them any of my info; any other sites out there? Also, which one of the three Kelly Blue Book values does one use if one wants to donate a car to charity and receive the tax write-off?

FYI: The tax laws on donating vehicles to charity were tightened up considerbly a couple years ago (fall 2005?). Be sure to your info is current.

Not sure if there is a place that posts true invoices without joining their site, like Edmunds, but if you dont find one, this formula is pretty reliable.

Cars with retail window stickers of 15 to 20k multiply by .91% to determine sellers invoice.

stickers of 20 to 29k, use a factor of .885%

stickers of 30 to 39k use .865%

and 40 to 55k use .85%

Those formulas will get you within a couple of hundred dollars of invoice.

But I always caution people pursuing invoice, as you never know what incentives the dealer has received or are pending receipt from the manufacturer, you do not know his holdback % or if any special advertising money is being sent them for national short term national or regional campaigns.

Sorry, cant advise you on current IRS deduction laws.
