Tuesday's Plays...

15 Dime –

METS (With Perez and Belisle as listed pitchers)
Take the Mets as the road chalk over the Reds.
New York is rolling right now, having won four consecutive games, including a 10-4 pounding of the Reds yesterday. They have outscored their opponents 25-8 during the winning streak, and their starting pitchers have allowed just six runs in 24 innings.
I expect that run to continue tonight with Oliver Perez making the start.
The left-hander is 3-1 with a 3.86 ERA in eight starts at Great American Ball Park and he’s 7-3 with a 3.98 ERA in 15 career starts against the Reds.
The Mets have won three straight over the Reds and 11 of the last 15 meetings.
Cincinnati has lost four straight and will send Matt Belisle to the hill in an attempt to stop their skid.
The only problem is the Reds can’t seem to win when he makes a home start.
Cincinnati is just 3-10 in games started by Belisle at home this year.
Take the Mets as the road chalk as they grab the win.

5 Dime –

GIANTS (With Lincecum and Morales as listed pitchers)
Take the Giants for the road win over the Rockies.
Tim Lincecum will start for San Francisco and this kid has nasty stuff.
The right-hander is 7-4 with a 3.94 ERA on the year and has 137 strikeouts in 130 1-3 innings. He hasn’t pitched since August 26 as manager Bruce Bochy tries to limit his innings down the stretch, so he should be well rested for tonight’s outing.
The Rockies will counter with Franklin Morales who was recalled from the minors after the September roster expansion. The left-hander is 0-2 in three starts this year and I don’t see him outpitching Lincecum tonight.
Take the Giants as they grab the road win.

MATT RIVERS

For Tuesday take the Bucos in Busch.

Sure St. Louis is much better than Pittsburgh but after watching the rout on Monday how can I not take a price back here with Pittsburgh!?!?!?
Matt Morris is not the same guy of old but he is a former Cardinal who should be prepared for this start and Joel Pineiro, despite some recent success is not a guy that I fear all that much.
Albert and the Redbirds probably should win this game after the horrific performance on Monday but Scott Rolen is out and to get a price back with Bay, Sanchez, Bautista and the Pirates against Pieiro is enough to give it a go here on the pup.
I would not be shocked to see the Redbirds get their revenge but at this price I'm willing to take my chances as Tony LaRussa's club is still mediocre at the very best this season. St. Louis may still have a shot in the NL Central after playing a lot better of late but the record doesn't lie and they are not worthy of this number with Pineiro.

Game: Baltimore Orioles at Tampa Bay Devil Rays
Sep 4 2007 7:10PM

Prediction: Tampa Bay Devil Rays

Reason: Baltimore is 3-14 in their last 17 games. In their last 9 as a dog they are 1-8. In their last 7 games vs. a left-handed starter they are 0-7. Baltimore has lost Guthrie's last 6 starts. Tampa is 6-1 in their last 7 games. The D'Rays have won 5 of their last 6 home games. In Kazmir's last 6 home starts Tampa is 5-1. Tampa is 5-2 in his last 7 starts overall. Two team's headed in different directions right now and in this one I'll take the hotter home team. Play on the Devil Rays

Game: New York Mets at Cincinnati Reds
Sep 4 2007 7:10PM

Prediction: New York Mets

Reason: I'm playing the Mets with Perez facing Belisle. This is a nice price for teams that are this far apart. The Mets won on Monday, making it four straight wins while the Reds have found a way to drop four in a row. Oliver Perez owns strong numbers at Great American, and even better numbers on the road. Perez is 6-4 in 10 starts away from Shea with a 3.29 ERA and 1.32 WHIP. He should receive plenty of support from his mates tonight. The Mets are excellent in road night games against righties scoring an average of over 5 1/2 runs per game. That's bad news for Matt Belisle. The Cinci righty is 2-7 in 13 home starts this season, allowing 51 earned runs in 73 1/3 IP, for a 6.26 home ERA to go along with a .313 BAA! Reds' opponents have scored 54 runs in Belisle's last six home starts, or 9.00 RPG. We'll jump on the Mets as they look to win their fifth in a row. Thanks! GL! Scott.

Game: Toronto Blue Jays at Boston Red Sox
Sep 4 2007 7:05PM

Prediction: under

Reason: Beckett has seen the UNDER go 2-0 the last two times he faced the Jays at Fenway, most recently suffering a 2-1 loss here in July. Beckett's last start (a 4-3 loss vs. the Yankees) also stayed below the number, bringing the UNDER to 9-5 his last 14 games. Meanwhile, Halladay has seen the UNDER go 3-1 his last four starts and 6-3 his last nine. The UNDER is also 3-1 his last four road starts with those four games averaging less than five combined runs each. Despite yesterday's offensive explosion, the UNDER also remains a profitable 11-8-1 the last 20 games in this series. Consider a play on the UNDER

My free pick of the day is the game between (925) KC Royals and (926) TEX Rangers. Take "(926) TEX Rangers". Rookie right-hander Billy Buckner gets an opportunity to crack the Royals' rotation. He was 9-7 with a 3.80 ERA in 27 games, including 15 starts, at Omaha. But this is not an easy park to pitch in, especially against a hot Ranger squad. Texas veteran Kevin Millwood has quietly had a strong second half, with a 2.38 ERA his last 3 starts. Texas is 37-31 at home and 9-3 its last 12 games overall. Play the Rangers!

Florida Marlins vs. Washington

1 Units, Take Florida +109, We are getting very good value here Tuesday with Florida since Dontrelle Willis (8-14 ERA 5.17) has pitched better on the road than at home this season. Florida is 7-4 this season when Willis has started against a NL East team. Willis is 10-5 lifetime against the Nationals with an ERA of 3.48. I look for Willis to bounce back with a strong start Tuesday night after a couple of starts where he has struggled. The Nationals are just 1-4 when Shawn Hill (3-3 ERA 2.87) has started for them at home this season and Florida simply has the overall better line-up Tuesday night.

Chicago White Sox at Detroit Tigers
Tuesday, September 4th, 7:05 P.M. EDT

Both Garland and Bonderman have struggled since the All-Star break. Garland shows a high-flying 7.47 ERA in his last three starts and is 5.20 on the road for the year. Bonderman is 5.30 his last three and 4.74 at home for the year. Neither can expect much help from the bullpen with the White Sox pen at 5.58 on the road and Detroit's 4.91 at home. The WHITE SOX are 38-22 OVER vs. a mediocre bullpen whose WHIP is 1.450 to 1.550 over the last 2 seasons and GARLAND is 15-3 OVER in road games vs. AL teams scoring 5.2 or more runs/game on the season over the last 3 seasons. (Team's Record) DETROIT is 21-8 OVER vs. teams outscored by opp by 0.5 or more runs/game in the second half of the season over the last 2 seasons.

L.A. Dodgers at CHICAGO CUBS (+120)

The Cubs are in a dogfight for the top spot in the NL Central and have gone just 4-3 on their current homestand. But Chicago sends its newest Cub to the mound today when newly acquired Steve Trachsel (6-8, 4.48 ERA) takes the hill.
Trachsel was acquired from Baltimore last week and had a 2.37 ERA in six August starts. Trachsel has experience at Wrigley Field, having started his career as a Cub and against the Dodgers he's got a 4.02 ERA in 21 lifetime starts.
Brad Penny (14-4, 2,88) goes for the Dodgers and got blasted by the Nationals Thursday, giving up six runs on eight hits over five innings. Penny lost 5-2 to the Mets in his last road start and he is just 2-2 in seven career starts against the Cubs.
The Dodgers are making a run at the D'Backs for the second spot in the NL West and in the thick of things for the wildcard. But tonight it's about a new face getting it done for the Cubs.

Play Chicago in this one.

Giants (913) at Rockies:

It helps to be a strikeout in a park like Coors Field. Only one of these starters is. San Fran righty Tim Lincecum (7-4) has 137 Ks in 130 innings. The Giants have won 12 of 17 games. Colorado lefty Franklin Morales has more walks ^8^ than strikeouts (6) in just 14 innings. He's 0-2 on the season. You can't walk batters in this park.

Diamond Club Major League Baseball

Los Angeles vs. Chicago 8:05 p.m. est.

Steve Trachsel gets the ball for the first time in his return to Wrigley Field as a member of the Cubbies. Look for a solid effort from the righthander and he gets our Diamond Club call as Tuesday's selection.

Take #910 Chicago Cubs in National League action.
