the all star break off their lead. Not too shabby. Boy there are ups and downs over a full season as we all know. Yankees in a big game tonight that is 1-0 and I can feel the tension in that one. Ellsbury just hit a HR, is playing great defense (two big catches the last few games) and is a nice spark to the Red Sox. Pedrioa and Ellsbury are a great 1,2 at the top of the order. MUCH better than anything else we had. Beckett looks good so far and Funk is happy.

I read today they were close to shutting down Buchholz? Kinda surprised they would pull the plug, he could be golden in the post season.

What ever happened to going with a hot rookie down the stretch? Bruce Kison 1971 ring a bell?

They will not let him go past a certain number of innings no matter what. He is close from what I hear. I mean you really can't blame them for that even though they will need him for the playoffs. I think it is a tough situation. I heard he may have been pulled from that no hitter if he reached a certain pitch count too. Good young arms are tough to come.

The max inning rule is still in effect...its very understandable how some of these teams are babying young arms (see Prior/Wood/Liriano/etc).

The Sox are going to take a similar approach like the Yankees did w/ Joba Chamberlain....and begin to stretch those innings in the bullpen.

Before gametime tonight, Francona acknowledged that Clay will begin working in the bullpen...primarily because of the overuse concern & the fact Tim Wakefield experienced no problems during today's throwing session.
