Like him or not he is as far as I can tell about to do something that maybe only Ruth has done in the AL. i.e. 50+ HR, 150 RBI, 150 runs. Haven`t checked the NL yet. A few have done 2 of the 3, but it seems only Babe has all 3. I need to check some more to even be sure he`s done it. How many RBI did he have in 28? Amazing and he`s got @ least 5 more good yrs.

good job, dude. as you see, babes career ba .349. unbelievable, right? if you like stats, he is undoubtedly the greatest hitter of all time, imo.
now, can you pull up his world series numbers? from what i know, these numbers show what a great clutch hitter he was. and finally, if you look at his pitching stats, it looks like he coulda been one of the greatest pitchers ever too.
in arods defense, walks were counted as hits during (part of )babes career, fewer teams, no blacks or hispanics in babe's day. hard to really compare. but fun to try.

150 runs scored will be tough, he's at 125 right now. We'll see. On pace for 147, but will take days off later this month if they blow wild card open with his minor sprain.

A-ROD won't get there, he'll fall short by a few runs scored.

Even possibly the greatest single season ever fell short:

Hack Wilson, 1930, 56 HR, 146 Rs, 191 RBIs, .356 BA

In a career full of great seasons, 1931 was a watershed for Gehrig. He batted .341 and led the league with 184 RBIs setting a still-standing single season record. During the 1931 season, Ruth and Gehrig combined for 92 home runs and 347 runs batted in, the most ever by a pair of teammates. The Yankees, as a team, averaged more than seven runs a game. Gehrig, having never won a home run title, finally notched a league leading total of 46 in 1931. However, Gehrig had to share the title with Ruth who matched his output of 46. In April of that season an event occurred that can be viewed as a capsulization of Gehrig’s subordination to Ruth.

TWO absolute all time greats.....wow wish we had some footage of this season.

sorry the story got cut off somehow...

With Lyn Lary on base, Lou Gehrig hit a home run into the stands at Washington. The ball, however, bounced back on the field and Lary saw a Washington outfielder catch it for what he believed was the last out of the inning. Gehrig circled the bases, but was called out when he passed Lary on the base path as Lary headed for the dugout. Instead of a home run, Gehrig was credited with a triple, costing him the single home run he needed to claim sole ownership of the home run title at seasons end

In 1927, Gehrig put up one of the greatest seasons by any batter in history. That year, Gehrig hit .373, with 218 hits: 52 doubles, 20 triples, 47 home runs, 175 runs batted in, and a .765 slugging percentage. His 117 extra-base hits that season are second all-time to Babe Ruth’s 119 extra base hits in 1921 and his 447 total bases are third all-time to Babe Ruth's 457 total bases in 1921 and Rogers Hornsby's 450 in 1922. Gehrig's great season helped the 1927 Yankees to a 110-44 record, the AL pennant, and a four-game sweep over the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1927 World Series. Although the AL recognized his season by naming him league MVP, his season was overshadowed by Babe Ruth’s 60 home run season and the overall dominance of the 1927 Yankees, a team often cited as having the greatest lineup of all time — the famed Murderers' Row.

to me, the most important #s are post season. a rod will never be able to be a yankee hero until he does it in the ws.
now, take a look at the babe's ws #'s. if you kids know the computer, look at him and compare with reggie, possibly the greatest post season hitter ever.
