Just absolutely brutal - 25 years old and his life has been turned completely upside down.

sad indeed, puts many things into proper perspective in our lives. hopefully he has a strong family and the bills organization to stand behind him on his difficult road to recovery.

Reading from the docs report - there is no road to recovery - very likely he is permanently paralyzed

the bills should pay him all his salary left in his contract right now.

pay all medical bills forever

and the league should award him a pension like he played the minimum amt. of years to recieve one.

are they obligated to pay him? i agree they certainly should pay him as well as taking care of the medical and rehab cost he will endure. will he get a pension? sorry but i dont know the legalities of this, regardless the kid should receive everything at the nfl's disposal to take care of him and his family. was he married? did he have children? this is a terrible tragedy.

"Replays showed the player twitching for a few seconds as he attempted to get up before falling back to the ground. Everett's eyes were open but he showed no further signs of movement during the next 15 minutes as the team's medical staff and emergency personnel placed him on a backboard and, with the player's head and body immobilized, loaded him into an ambulance at the Broncos 30."

Ouch....that's bad. Also, he's not out of the woods yet as far as survival. What an ugly start to the season.

Bills doctor's were on local AM radio reporting in detail on KE's situation. They say next 3 or so days are key ... will determine if he needs further surgery. Still risk of pnemonia, clotting, etc ... which could be fatal. Chance he'll walk again. 4 hours of surgery withing hour of collision.

You guys shouldn't jump on Berman ... his guys probably went to wgr550 for info where this was aired.

The only good thing is his spinal cord was not severed. This means there is a chance he will walk again. He has some feeling in all extremities which gives him a chance.

He's sedated and on a ventilator on purpose to rest the neck and reduce swelling.

There is always a chance of death with cervical spine surgery due to clots and pneumonia. The chance is very low, but it was prudent that the doc mentions this.

I think the most likely scenario is that he regains some movement and likely gets around with a walker or some assist devices.

My prayers are with him.

I was going to ask in all seriousness, "Is there any sport that comes close to American Football in brutal injuries"?... but then I looked at that avatar of Larry the f'in stooge and just had to give up...

It seems to me that these expenditures should be covered by the insurance that the team ought to be carrying on their players. I can't imagine these guys playing this game without insurance to protect them from such injuries.

I'm sure he has insurance through them to cover the bills. But I'm curious to know if he will get any kind of disability payout, long-term care if necessary, or pension. I'm sure he'll get all of his salary from this year, but I wonder about his future.

I guess all of that is secondary to his condition, but I'm still curious to know.
