He exposes George Bush and Ted Kennedy as the statist libs they are while on the campaign trail:103631605

Thompson Criticizes No Child Left Behind

By BRENDAN FARRINGTON – 57 minutes ago

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson said Thursday that President Bush's signature education program isn't working and that he would provide federal education money with fewer strings attached.

"We've been spending increasing amounts of federal money for decades, with increasing rules, increasing mandates, increasing regulations," Thompson said. "It's not working."

He added that there are problems with Bush's No Child Left Behind program, which requires annual testing and punishes schools that don't make progress.

"No Child Left Behind — good concept, I'm all for testing — but it seems like now some of these states are teaching to the test and kind of making it so that everybody does well on the test — you can't really tell that everybody's doing that well. And it's not objective," Thompson said.

Instead, he said the federal government should be providing block grants as long as states set up objective testing programs.

He said his message to states would be, "We expect you to get objective testing done and publicize those tests for the local parents and for the local citizens and suffer the political ramifications locally if things don't work out right."

The former Tennessee senator and star of NBC's "Law & Order" was responding to a question as he began a three-day bus tour of Florida, his first visit to the state since announced his candidacy last week. A woman asked what he would do for education. He told her decisions on how schools are run should be made by local and state decisions, not dictated out of Washington.

"It's your responsibility,"
he said. "If you don't like what's going on, don't get in your car and drive by your school board and maybe drive by the capitol and get on an airplane and fly to Washington and say, 'I don't like the way the school down the street is being run.'"

Bold print is classic "Fred Sense".

Gotta love "Fred Sense."

Now, if only Fred would choose Duncan Hunter as his VP, I would pass out those t-shirts with JP's avatar, and officially declare "morning in America" once again.

Question: “Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can’t locate the U.S. on a world map. Why do you think this is?”

Fred Thompson: “I personally believe… that… U.S. Americans are unable to do so… because… uh…some … people out there in our nation don’t have maps and…. uh, I believe that our, ah, education like such as… in South Africa, and, uh, the Iraq, like everywhere like…such as… and I believe that they should, uh, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., or should help South Africa, it should help the Iraq and the Asian countries… so we will be able to build up our future…for our children.”

tiznow, you gonna vote for Fred (or any other candidate) if he wins, or, like all Paulestinians, will you simply pack up and go home once Moses drops out?

i need to find out more about fred i still have no clue what he stands for but sounds better than mitt and rudy to me the little that i do know, as for others, i hate rudy, rudy vs. hillary i'll vote 3rd party, after that i'd probably vote for any other republican vs. hillary.

that said i don't know what will happen if ron paul doesn't get the nomination

run 3rd party? maybe we will have enough following to write him in and make a statement? who knows

The paulestinians will vote for Hillary Joe, 99 percent of them.

I wasn't attacking you tiz. If the ***** made it seem that way I don't even recall what word I typed there fur sure, but it wasn't a derogatory word nor a word directed at you or any other paulestinian or lib I don't think. therx needs to loosen up the policies a bit I would think.

tiznow, so you'd be fine with Ron Paul as an independent candidate increasing the likelihood of a Hillary presidency?

I absolutely hate hillary, between rudy and hillary its a toss up and is honestly my worst nightmare....rudy like my antithesis pro war and liberal on many issues and is a very authortarian type of guy as he showed in ny as mayor, after that i'd take anyone else besides hillary

the hard line republicans i guess will never wake up to the fact if they would imbrace ron paul they could re energize the party with youth and enthusiam from all ends of the political spectrum (let's face the fact the party is in complete shambles just look at fundraising of the dems vs. republicans you got bill richardson in better financial position than mccain and mitt romney) whether you agree with him on some issues or not i think overall you can agree with alot of what he stands for if you are conservative. obviously the war and his foreign policy ideas are a big issue that some people just can't look past. As far being a loonie and wanting to get rid of the federal reserve, dept of education, homeland secuity etc etc etc it will be a process of downsizing and working towards this end. Mainly it will bring the IDEAS to the table not necessarily the results. He's not gonna snap his fingers and poof big government is completely gone and we enter total anarchy.

You didn't answer my question. :ughhh:

Parsons is voting for Hillary so he can prove his "chaos" theory.

due to the fact that ron paul goes beyond party lines i don't think him running 3rd party will have much affect in helping the dems come the general election. the overwhelming majority of ron paul supporters don't like either party in its current state, and are people that are sick of voting for the lesser of two evils every election cycle. We never really sided one way or the other. We are a mixed bag of fed up voters sick of the establishment and government as usual and want REAL change. Honestly through ron paul i came to realize i was more conservative than i had ever known and i think that's the case for many others. :103631605

bottom line the #1 reason i'm supporting ron paul is because he isn't a government shill, he doesn't talk like a normal politician, he actually seems like a human being to me, he actually sees himself as a servant to the people, and he's the first politician that i actually believe everything that comes out of his mouth he truly believes in and is consistent with his message and isn't flip flopping around to a side depending on which way the breeze is blowing in order to gain more votes.

i mean i obviously agree with alot of what he says on the issues but throwing all issues off the table this is the #1 i support him
