Sports.
Oden, the 7-footer out of Ohio State, underwent exploratory surgery on his right knee on Thursday in Vancouver. The extent of the damage was not immediately clear, but Oden, one of the most celebrated young players in years, will be lost for the season.
The Blazers are expected to make an announcement shortly.

Knee injury = out for the season for any smart basketball player.
Portland was stupid to take this slacker. Kevin Durant is the real deal and should of went #1.

If it is a year, he may have to get microfracture like Stoudemire b/c of cartilage damage. Some players it works on and some it doesnt! If it is indeed micro....his career may even be in jeopardy. I have not heard that but just speculating on my part....

How long until they pull the 20 foot Oden #1 jersey off the Rose Garden?

TNT and ABC have a bunch of Trailblazer games scheduled. I hope they have an escape clause. Those games will get zero ratings. Basketball is the one sport where one player makes all the difference. This a real disaster for Portland which is trying to keep the team in the city. Looks like they will be back in the lottery. Oden didn't figure to make a huge impact his first year but now this means he won't come into his own until the 2009 season. That is a long way off.

:youmad:

Say what you want about the injury but calling him a slacker is just plain ignorant. He truely loves basketball, always tries to get better, works very hard on his deficiencies, and accepts coaching. He was just starting to get into shape when the knee pain started really hurting. A tremendous blow to not only the Blazers and fans but to him personally. Greg will take this very hard as he feels he has let down the Blazers and fans (through no fault of his own), but that is the way Greg is.

Amare proved it is possible for a young man to have microfracture surgery and come back with explosiveness but I expect to not see it in fully until the 2nd half of year 2 and year 3. I hope he gets better quickly as he is good for the NBA.:103631605

Picture Aldridge, Roy, Oden and (Rose or Mayo) in 09. Scary.

stll think portland will be competitive next year. oden was the missing piece to be a contender but this team is still loaded with talent and a coach that knows how to use it. i would still watch them on national tv. brandon roy is a star.

This might be great for Portland. If they suck again this year and get a top-5 pick in the draft, they'll have two talented youngsters on the team, if Oden makes a full recovery from the microfracture surgery (no given, I know)
