Today the first-place Grand Prix race team McLaren was fined approximately $100 milliion (no, that is NOT a misprint) for receiving 780 pages of Ferrari technical information from a disgruntled ex-Ferrari team member. The World Motorsports Council saw this as cheating, and in addition to levying the enormous fine, McLaren have been booted out of this year's Formula 1 Constructors' Championship. http://www.planet-f1.com/story/0,18954,3213_2726904,00.html Wonder if the NFL will treat the Patriots cheating as severely ......

The NFL isn't going to do anything substantial or significant (Truthfully, I'm not entirely sure how much it is warranted). Goodell doesn't have the stones or, because of the structure of the league, the capacity to really punish.

Last year in Italian soccer there was a "match fixing" scandale where the Juventus general manager had conversations with several officials of Italian football to influence referee appointment. Juve was stripped of no one, ut two championships, lost their 2006-07 Champions League place and was relegated to the second division, penalized 9 points to start the season in the second division and had to play three home games with no fans.

Two or three years ago Genoa apparently bribed a team to lay down at the end of the season assuring them promotion from Serie B to Serie A (even though they were virtually guaranteed promotion anyway). Instead of being promoted they were relegated to Serie C-1

That is how you punish teams for f*ing around.

Its great to watch patriot fans defend an admitted cheater.

In the end the League will have the final word.

wow

as a McClaren team fan in F1 I can only say the punishment is justified with the crime.

no fucking way the NFL doesn anything like th FIA did to McClaren or what happened to Juve last year in the Seria A

that guy has no balls, all he can do is suspend players but when it comes to an organization he doesn't have the balls to do it

Let's talk about how our boy friends snuck a peak at another girl's ass in a restaurant ... HE MIGHT BE CHEATING.

Lorena Bobbitt cut off her husband's dick when she caught him

That's you punish men for f*cking around

yo Cincy I'm not sure which world you live in but Formula One is a HUGE sport and people globally BET on the outcome of the races and Constructer Championships.

why do you have to go offtopic bringing some dude's wee wee into the conversation?

Do you fantasize about this kinda stuff ?

Cincy, what I was doing was taking the opportunity to point out how one organization - rightly or wrongly - happened to deal with cheating allegations - ironically this very day.

You can contribute better than that, I know you can.

.. and what I did was point out what one woman did when she was pissed off with her husband:

SHE CUT HIS DICK OFF

Forfeit is now being bounced around.

I like that idea. It would certainly put and end to it. A team might still be willing to cheat if it meant winning a big, big game, (ie getting into the playoffs or winning a playoff game) for the loss of a draft choice.

It should be noted that McLaren's two drivers are still alowed to go for the Driver's world championship (they are currently running one - two in total points with about four races remaining). It's the separate Constructors' Championship (i.e. a Team competition of total points scored by their drivers) that they are now out of.

The closest analogy I can think of is a college football team being allowed to play its schedule but being ineligible for a post-season Bowl game.
