Josh Beckett at 19-6 with a an Era around 3.20 with 180 strikeouts against only 38 walks is the definite favorite to win this year's AL CY Young over the guy he beat today C.M. Wang. Wang is now at 18-7 with only 94 Ks and 54 BOB with an ERA over 3.80. Johan Santan despite 211 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.09 is not going to win it with a record of 15-11 wins and losses to date.

The rest of the contenders - Verlander, Sabathia, Escobar, Bedard or the relievers, Jenks, Putz, Borowski, Papelbon and Jones are all long shots.

Sabathia may be a longshot but he is just as deserving. From July 24th until August 24th he had 7 starts, gave up a total of 12 earned runs (never more than 2 in a game) and won exactly one game.

Becketts performance yesterday certainly installed him as the favorite for the award at this time.

What a career this guy is having........actually a very underrated pitcher for what he has accomplished thus far in his career.

There's not a lot out there in the AL this year...CC Sabathia perhaps?

I think C.C. has pitched every bit as well as Beckett and has had several wins taken away either by lack of suppoort or blown lead....Sabathia should have 22 wins by now....Beckett has to be the favorite now.

Santana is the best pitcher. He'll have to wait a few more years until he skips town in Minny and plays for one the two-headed monsters.

Congrats to Beckett ... can't be easy putting up quality numbers in that over-hyped LL stadium in Boston.

You must be overwhelmed then with how good the pitching staff is in Beantown at the current moment..........considering they lead the league in ERA playing in a "Little League" stadium.

Seeing good teams in NY and Boston is hardly overwhelming. They spend the most money, they buy the best players. For Chirst's sake they paid how many millions just to be able to TALK to Dice K?

Is the Sox pitching staff good? yes
Should they be? yes

Not sure which part you consider a surprise enough to overwhelm anyone.

Secret to Sox recent success has been the Farm. Theo has it all over Billy Bean right now.

Weve traded away how many good players from the farm? And still have Pedroia, Buchholz and Ellsbury and who even knows who else.

DEFINITELY A 3 HORSE RACE NOW as C.C. go's to 18-7 today, 3.19 ERA. (Wang, Beckett, and CC)

Sox may baby Beckett this week, but playing in Boston helps his cause.
