Talk about sore winners.
Griffin Whitman, a 10-year-old Red Sox [team stats] fan from Swampscott, was excited to attend his first Yankees vs. Red Sox game Friday night. The young autograph -collector was even more thrilled to score Yankees outfielder Shelley Duncan’s signature before the game. That is, until Griffin read the message from the 27-year-old rookie: “Red Sox suck! Shelley Duncan.”
“It was cool to get his autograph,” Griffin said. “It didn’t make me feel happy when he wrote that.”

Griffin’s mother, Karen, blasted the Yankees slugger’s bad manners.
“This is someone who wears the Yankee uniform and is on the payroll and should be setting an example for 10-year-olds,” she said.
Duncan, son of St. Louis Cardinals pitching coach Dave Duncan, has become a fan favorite in the Bronx for hitting mammoth home runs since he was called up from the minors in July.
Yesterday afternoon, a Yankee spokesman declined to comment until he got a chance to speak to Duncan.

I bet he just autographed the paper and other thing was added on later..

I can't imagine any athlete doing such a thing.

Well it is kind of dumb that he is trying to get an autograph in a notebook

I mean I would have my kid there with a game program or something

Classic, That kid just learned a valuable lesson about the rivalry, and not to wear a Red Sox Jersey and Hat when asking for a Yankee players autograph.

Kind of a dick move but funny none the less

classic!

people are way too sensitive these days...I remember back when I was 10 yrs old...that would've instantly been my fav. autograph of all time...just because the stories (and apparently...newspaper articles, lol) I could tell people.

I also think the bigger issue here is the fact that the parent didn't buy her kid a program. She broke a cardinal rule of bringing your kid to the game.

You gotta love it. This is as intense as it gets. That is a classic, I must admit.

Shit, that's nothing. I would've wrote "I hope you get AIDS. PS The Red Sox suck."

Seriously, who thinks this isn't great? Grow a sense of humor. You ask a Yankee for an autograph wearing Saux gear you deserve to get punched in the face with brass knuckles (and I hate the Yankees). He must not be a true Red Sox fan if he's asking for a Yankee's autograph. Shithead.

Seriously. Out there with a notebook asking a nobody yankees player for his autograph. I really wonder about this kids parents.

You tell your kid "You dont want to ask these guys for their autograph. These guys with the blue on, those are the bad guys."
