Lead down to 1 1/2 after holding a 14 1/2 lead over Yanks. Yanks hold tie breaker so it's getting to be choke time for Sox.

Boston started to fold the day they signed Gagne ! This guy is pathetic with a BAA of .365 since He joined the Red Sox. One can't help but think that perhaps his great stats in the past were aided by Steroids.JMHO

Who cares? The Yankees already said that they don't care about the division. The only thing that matters is that you get in, and the Red Sox are in. These games they are playing now don't mean much.

Cardinals looked terrible at the end of the season last year before they squeaked in. This week and next mean nothing to Boston.

Keep thinking that.
It only happens once every 20 yrs and Cards were last yr.
Cards were an inning away from the Mets beating em so that was BS.
It does matter how you enter the playoffs!!

What are you saying was BS? Regular season doesn't mean shit once the playoffs start. Obviously.

And home field doesn't mean all that much either. You play the playoffs 10 times, and you're going to have a lot of different champions. It's all a matter of who comes through in the clutch. October is beautiful.

the way they're finioshing and with all the injuries, I think it matters...but I hear you too, it can all turn quickly, last year is proof. Sox fans have to be concerned, they have so many question marks right now.

Illini is right about homefield not meaning much. Heard today only 54 percent of home teams win in the 1st round of the playoffs.

That stat doesn't mean all that much because there has been a change in the playoff format in the AL only. It gives the team with the best record the choice of starting the playoffs on Oct 3 and going with a more extended timetable. This format would enable a team like the Indians of going with the more extended format that would allow them to have their 2 Aces { Sabathia and Carmona } to be used in 4 of the 5 games. I think it is a huge advantage for some teams like Cleveland with 2 Super Starters.

Well it still means alot until it is proven these teams who get to choose benefit from the new rule.

Home Field does not mean much in my opinion. Not in bases. THe Sox crapping down the stretch could (or could not) but that is to be determined. Also since all the teams relatively equal it means even less. Not good to blow lead though like Sox are doing.

Sox look terrible right now. Manny's issues don't help. I know Francona's focusing more on getting the team ready for the playoffs than winning the division (see the game where he left Gagne in in the 8th just to see if he could get out of his mess), but there are going to be a lot of pissed off people if they don't start playing well fast.
