I am wondering if somebody can explain to me how a bookie makes money in baseball. it seems to me that the public is on the favorite most of the time, usually accounting for 60% or more of the bets. if the favorite loses, the bookie makes money and usually if the favorite wins they lose money. so the bookie (i guess) roots for the underdog. however i looked at the past month and the favorites won an astounding amount of times. the amount the books would lose from the favorites winning would out-wiegh what they win from the underdog winners. can somebody please help?

You have to consider chasing. It can put someone in the whole real quick. Especially if they are chasing a favorite and it loses. Smart bettors bet even money but there really are few of those out there. Even if you say you are going to play even money all season everyone can go through a period of losses and try to make it back fast. Everyone says it's the juice that makes bookies profitable but I think that the lack of patience on the bettors side is a much bigger factor.

It really isn't the juice how we make money....say you have 100 players...it is not really the juice making you the real money even though it helps. It is peoples bad money managment skills. Players panick in the begining of the week when they get down and they press the closer it gets to settelment day. Sometimes they get even, but most of them end up maxing their limit out.

juice is a very little way that the book makes money.

real reasons

1.. public bettors

2.. favorite players

3.. money management
