What are the advantages to using an offshore over a local? With all the hassles we are reading of trying to get money out -not all, but some- isn't it better to just bet with a local.

Many will say you get screwed with the lines. But if you are just using one offshore, that really is no different than using just one local. And I am not buying into the "better lines" crap. Because that really all depends on who you are betting on. Some people hate Bodog beacuse of the crappy lines, but if you bet dogs a lot, you would love them.

So what am I missing here?

I'm thinking about adding an extra local. I live only about on hour out of NYC so it shouldn't be too hard to find another.

your missing the will power to not chase on sunday and monday night. Offshore you need to have the money to lose. A bookie can lead to trouble.

My local is 24/7 via web just like offshore. I've never had any service issues. I guess maybe I am lucky in that aspect.

It's just so damn hard sometimes trying to fund these offshores.

Rightside, I understand your chasing theory, but that really shouldn't be an issue. maybe cuz I have a limit with my local, I can only chase to my limit, so taht is no different than ofdfshore.
But I guess the mentality of not wanting to be down at the end of Sunday night cold also be the factor you are talking about.

find a local that has his accounts administered by an offshore, that is the best of both worlds.

Harry, I'm with you. I hate the hassle and the visibility of funding an offshore plus they pay with a check.

You will find a time when your book is trying to charge too much vig. Just quit betting and tell him that you are going to have to fund a offshore because you can't afford him. usually he will reduce his vig to stay in line.

I am a bit confused, are you pro book or pro offshore, you have an offshore account with a credit line which is handled by a local but you still get access to the early line with the guy that has you set up o/s?

I can think of a lot of reason of using offshore rather than a local. Offshore you can get lines available from Sunday night on for the NFL and most college games. I know most books that don't use offshore outlets, usually don't put out lines until Thursday. If say you liked the Chiefs last week, you could have bet them at -2.5 most of the week instead of the -3 on Sunday. Gave you a winner instead of a push.

Since most good books are open 24/7, you have the option of betting any time you'd like so if you have a job where you don't get off work until 3 am or so, like a bartender, and don't wake up until the games are underway, you can place your bets without worrying if you'll get up in time, or are forced to get up early.

And as someone has already mentioned, you won't be able to bet OVER your head and only have the money available in your account. Playing "catch up" has killed more than one bettor and made them sit out a lot of the season until they pay off.

As far as cashing in quickly, is it really necessary? Sure we all like to see our profits when we make a score, but if you withdraw then have a bad week, you only have to reload again. Better off leaving the money there so you can either transfer it to another book that might have a better line, or have a safety cushion for a bad week or weeks! I know one local I use we don't settle up until after the Super Bowl. Either he paid me at our SB party or I paid him. Been doing that for 10 years with the same guy and no problem.

With local books, $50 bettors become $500 when they are trying to get even. I have seen this many times.

I guess you are either talking about a Credit Book, which has local Sheets so this way you can collect or pay in person.

Or, it's a Local guy that is paying per head to a Webite so you guys can play online....Also seeing a local to pay or collect

The two above are just about the same....So you shouldn't even worry or ask about an Offshore place..

Your Question has been answered by You !

The Places in Question are Post-Up Books !! Just means that if you want a Account, you fund it whichever way Credit card,Bank wire, Etc.
Whatever you put Up...Is your Limit !

Other then that reason, some people I have found ...Like to bet on "Other" Type of games ie, Soccer,Martial Arts,Rugby,etc....which Most if not All Credit Books don't take...

You also have to remember that Your Avg. Post Up Gambler Bets small...
And Maybe fund there accounts anywhere from $100-$1000
Well I guess even Higher then that...But you get the picture...

my local added a 1/2 unit to the Cinn/Seahawks game and it helped me as I had the Bengals. Most people have at least two offshores along with a local.
There are many advantages to having an offshore book inspite of the possible downsides as shown last year.

I guess my local is much better than I thought. It looks like everyone else's is still in the 1990's

I've had him for about 20 years. Back when you had to place all bets between 6-8 pm. But now I guess they must have paid an offshore for us to log into.

I go to a website to place all wagers, but I still carry my balance with him.

I can't get into the hole you guys talk about, because there are limits on my account (per play and weekly total)

FB lines are up usually by Mon. Bases don't come up til about 11 am.
I can do soccer, tennis, rugby, lottery.... Parlays and teaser are average.

So i guess i have it pretty good. But I'm still looking for another , just for line shopping advantages.
