i never really respect people who say "we". they dont pay me, us or u to be fans.....but to be honest Im a fan of 1 team in all of sports, and thats the Phillies.
Everyone has scars, relationships etc that define them, and this team is really the only positive part of my life be4 i moved out of philadelphia at the age of 19,
I had a rocky family life, and sports were a big part of who i am, and baseball was the only bond i ever had with a father that otherwise discarded me , my mother and my brother.
Without getting all sappy, the phillies are the only team Im passionate about, which always seemed odd to me considering i was highly competetive high school basketball player in philly, and went on to play in college.
Yet i hate the nba, and iw atch 162 + days of baseball every year (i stopped playing in 10th grade to focus more on hoops.
Anyway, the Phillies have done it, and its SO SATISFYING
THe happiest moment in my adult sports life, as i have not followed a team that had a playoff run except for the eagles, but for me, its just not the same as baseball.
Jimmy rollins hit his 20th triple and became the first player since willie mays to do what he did today, and Im proud to have seen one of baseballs greatest baseball accompishments of the last 50 years. Not only statistically, but Rollins spoke up preseason and was greatly criticized for his comments. I really admire people who can do what he did......
I share this info with u , my fellow RXers as i have to come to know and respect many of u for your friendships and contributions here........I dont care if anyone condemns or mocks me for being sappy about this, its very special to me.
So for all u Phillies fans, celebrate today in whatever your special way is, and we can forget about 93 and joe carter, blah blah...we have our own history to make now. Enjoy it, because while yankee, braves, lakers, and colts fans get to do this every year, we know far to well how hard it is to not back a front runner.
For those baseball fans of u whose teams did not win this year, i feel for u, its tuff to watch the playoffs as just an observer or bettor, if u truly love the game.
This is usually the day i dread the most, the last day of baseballs eason, (baseball is the only sport i say a turn a large profit at). But today, i have other nonfinancial reason to celebrate.
Go Fightin's!
