why didn't matsui hustle to third?

why was he content for a double. not saying he should stretch it and get thrown out, but he wasn't running hard into second and appeared he could have easily made 3rd

you kinda answered your question-- no need to get to 3rd base when you are down by two get to 2nd to avoid the double play possibility-- his run means nothing-- now if this was not the last inning then you should question his hustle but in this situation it is not questioned

He probably made a split second decision that determined attempting to get to third was not without risk. Getting thrown out at 3rd in that situation is beyond unforgivable.
