The Poker Players Alliance claims almost 800,000 members.

How come sports players can never get their act together? Sure, there are a lot more poker players, but shouldn't the sports people be able to put together 20,000? It just seems like any time we try to do something, we are lucky to get 50 people involved.

I think it would be nice for us to have a "voice" independant of books or watchdog type sites, they bring too much baggage to the table and often have an agenda.

Many moons ago casino players had the OPA or Online Players Association. At the time we were the first and only watchdog group anywhere on the net. I was an original board member and we went to bat for players as a free service.

It all went to hell when the founder went to prison for stealing from the Ohio food bank and fraud. The site was then sold and started selling ads, seal of approvals, and eventually their sole.

stealing from the Ohio food bank

Hahaha.

What's a Sports Players Association?

Do I have to go to meetings and shit?

Fuck that.

I'll sign something though and forget about it.

If we start it we will need a forum to discuss matters.

I have the perfect mod to run it...

I'm a member of PPA only because they gave me a juicy reload bonus at Party for signing up. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Yes, I know that was a fishy episode with you know who but did they really sell sole?

I also belong to the PPA...and as you see below....they try !

Join the Poker Players Alliance in DC
Your Chance to Bet on the Future Of Poker

Last week, we sent you an invitation to join us in Washington, DC, October 22-24 because you live in a critical congressional district. We're off to a great start with nearly 100 people saying they're willing to raise the stakes to get legislation passed that will determine once and for all our ability to play poker -- online, in our homes and at tournaments.
You can join some of the world's top poker professionals and your fellow PPA members by clicking here and registering now. If you've already registered, thanks! We can't wait to see you in DC and we will continue to send you updates.
If you haven't signed up, your participation is vitally important. As you know, legislation passed during the last Congress threatens our pastime, our passion and for many of us, our livelihood. Momentum is building, and we need you to join a select group of players to tell Members of Congress that poker is not a crime!
Just click here to register. We have negotiated a special room rate, available until October 5, but keep in mind that the rooms are filling up quickly. Once we know that you're all-in, we will schedule a meeting with your Member of Congress -- working with you to make sure they get the message that poker is a game of skill and that reasonable regulation is the best policy approach to Internet gaming. You'll also have a chance to mingle with many of the best poker players and pros from across the United States.

I look forward to seeing you at this important event.
Proud to Play Poker,
Senator Alfonse D'Amato
Chairman
Poker Players Alliance

The PPA message is to argue that, unlike sports wagering, poker is more skill than luck and therefore is not gambling and should be exempted from the Internet Gambling law. In other words, by distguishing themselves from us and throwing us under the bus, they are seeking an exemption. I hope they fail miserably. :shoot3:

It may piss off the sports players, but put yourself in the shoes of the poker players. If your chances are limited at best, you sure as hell aren't going to drag any unneeded bagage with you to the fight.

They had a choice - they could have just maintained that Horseracing, Lottery and Fantasy Sports are also forms of gambling and they could of argued that they these forms of gambling were unfairly and unjustifiably exempted from the legislation. They could have made this argument in concert with sports bettors rather than throwing us under the bus.

I think any kind of alliance should start with the people who run these different gambling forums to start working together for the common cause and stop bickering back and forth like children. Just my 2 cents.
