talk about over-managing...horrific move to pull Z in game 1 of a best of 5. and pitchers today flat out do not get the job done on three days rest. see jake peavey. so you now have to take 3 out of 4 from the dbacks - good luck fuking moron.
He pulled him because the game was tied and that D'Bax offense looked flat. It's not his fault that his most reliable pitcher came in and gave up two runs. I'm sure if he had known how bad Marmol was going to be, he would've brought in ANYONE else. He also took out Zambrano because he's going to pitch Sunday on 3 days rest and doesn't want him out of gas and not able to pitch game 4 which of course would be an elimination game, one way or another. If the Cubs are up 2-1, you don't want to go back to AZ, so you'd throw your horse out there to win it. If you're down 2-1, you want your "best" guy out there to extend the series.
That being said, Lou did lose this game for them. I, as well as many of you of course, would've kept Z in there to pitch to at least one more guy. If he gets him out, continue, if not, Marmol comes in. He also should've walked Connor Jackson and loaded the games and hoped for a harmless out (or a DP) followed by any kind of out.
His first mistake though was not bunting with Theriot on 2nd, 0 out, and Zambrano batting. Webb learned his lesson by treating Zambrano as another pitcher who can't hit after he doubled off of him. Clearly Webb was going to get him out one way or another. Yeh, Z did lace that ball, but it was a routine out if Drew wasn't 4 feet tall.
This series is still long from over although I do think the DBax will win it easily.
