zambrano couldnt come through for the sweep yesterday. lost cubs alternate runline after hitting the colorado moneyline and the anaheim total under 8.5

playing philadelphia (-1.5) (+140) this afternoon.

one thing that has been pretty consistent over the years is the way teams respond to a big win with a quality performance the next time out ... before hitting a bit of a wall of sorts and falling flat when asked to respond a second time.

in this case, colorado had the crazy extra-inning win against san diego on monday. but they were able to ride that emotional buzz right through game one against philly to take a 1-0 lead despite being in what a lot of people felt could be a very difficult spot.

its similar to how teams respond to being without a key starter in football or basketball. they can usually come together and rally to play well the first game after the injury but its the games immediately following that where it becomes a lot tougher to get it done.

not trying to take this thread in a 'psychology of sport' direction necessarily, but ill just say that this afternoon's matchup will be the biggest test yet for colorado.

... they rallied for the wild card
... they came basically cross country to take a 1-0 lead against the phils
... but now is where it gets tough. there isnt the emotional buzz to ride anymore, and there is a sense of complacency that can set in when you are up 1-0 and know that you have already 'done your job' and are going home with a split at worst.

i also like the fact that the phils will be facing a pitcher in morales who has a bit of trouble with his command from time to time and its tough to succeed in a hitters park like philly when you put runners on base with walks or go deep into every count.

loved the rocks yesterday. love their team.
... but dont love 'em today. not at all.

philadelphia (-1.5) (+140)

Philly Runline seems like the best price on the board of any game. Morales hasn't been tested yet, at all. Kendrick hasn't either but you have to give him the benefit of the doubt being at home for what should be a very desperate Philly crowd today. Lose this one today and you can pretty much close the book on them. I'm on it. Good luck today Prodigy.

did you play that arizona under yesterday? if so, that was a damn nice call. im not sure why i got such cold feet on it. im always willing to take a stand with an under but something about games in arizona make it tough for me to go under 7.5. probably a case of 'overthinking' it on my part. damn nice play if you hit it addict.

I did, but I also played the Angels ML so not a very profitable day. I hear you though about those 7.5 games. Sometimes you just have to cap it the way you see it, even if it looks like a sucker bet so to speak. Do you look for a lot of runs the rest of the way in the Chi/AZ series? You can always expect runs at Wrigley, but even at Chase I'm thinking tonight the ball might be flying all over the place.

Excellent post Prodigy. Surprised your not giving Morales a little more credit. GL with the play.

just played philadelphia in-game heading to the bottom of the first at (+180). some of these live betting lines shock me. christ, the phillies havent even taken a swing and suddenly theyre 2/1 dogs just because they didnt shut colorado out in the first? we'll see. that'll be it for this one. but this game should have a lot of runs and the park is certainly conducive to big swings of momentum.

Tribe has to win this game tonight Prod. They lose tonight, they lose the series IMO.

And it doesnt look good early. TOooooo many pitches by C.C. in the first scares me...

gut feeling was that carmona would be a better bet in game two than sabathia in game one. with sabathia, he gets so damn worked up that he tries to overthrow sometimes even though his stuff is more than good enough to dominate. i love how carmona is just even keel and not overly emotional. ill probably back carmona tomorrow regardless of this game one outcome tonight.
