This has to be the classiest thing i ever heard of

Besides their surprising 14-1 finish to the season, the Colorado Rockies are giving baseball fans another reason to cheer for them this postseason.
The widow of Rockies Double-A coach Mike Coolbaugh, who died after getting hit by a line drive earlier this season, will be granted a full share of the team's playoff winnings after a team vote.
Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said the gesture spoke volumes about the quality of the character in their locker room.
"I was passed on the information that they voted Amanda Coolbaugh a share, a full share, which I found speaks to their awareness, speaks to their passion, speaks to every good thing about them," Hurdle said.
Amanda Coolbaugh, who is 32 and pregnant, won't attend Saturday's Game 3 of the NLDS between the Phillies and Rockies at Coors Field. But her two sons, Joseph, 5, and Jacob, 3, will be in attendance and will throw out the first pitch.
"When I heard about what the players did, I almost cried," Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd said. "This was the players' idea. I think it's remarkable."

that's worth over 350k if they win. very nice gesture by the players. i would hope a former major leaguer would've had a nice sum of life insurance though as should all other parents/husbands.

will someone explain to me how "shares" work for players in the playoffs? I assume it goes by each round...

does it differ by team?

The Players' pool is created from 60% of the total gate receipts from the first four World Series Games, 60% of the total gate receipts from the first four games of each League Championship Series, and 60% of the total gate receipts from the first three games of each Division Series.

The Pool is distributed as follows:
World Series Winning Team: 36%
World Series Loser: 24%
League Championship Series Losers: 12% each
Division Series Losers: 3% each
Non-wild Card Second Place Teams: 1% each.

Teams divide the shares as they wish...usually anyone who was on roster during the season gets a full share. A first round loser still gets about 30k for a full share.

The White Sox full player share was worth a record of 324k when they won in 06.
Cardinals full share set a new record 362k last year. Cardinals voted on 48 full shares and i think 8 partials and also some "cash rewards"

A pretty nice one time direct deposit if you ask me
