Credibility wise, I think it maybe better to tell most you are a bookie than a player

When explaining to them that you are winning.

Here is my reasoning for this. A friend of mine (cough, cough, Betedgeonly) has told a few people in my life, like my dad and a few buddies, that I have done fairly well betting in ths past year.

When these people confront me about this I have notcied I have a hard time explaining to them why and how I have won and that people do win at this.

The last person I explained this to, I just threw out that I am a small bookie because I didn't have the energy to explain to him. Instantly, his whole attitude towards me and this changed compared to others in the past. It was almost like he took me a little more serious so I went with it.

Not sure how I will handle this again. I do occasionaly get together with a few lifetime buddies and after a few beers something like this may get brought up. I may go the bookie route.

Everytime I have been in this situation in the past I feel like most look at me crosseyed, like I am lying. I think being a winning bookie may have more credibility than a winning player.

Anyone else fell this way?

The vast majority of individuals I meet here in TAMPA believe I'm a bookie rather than a player............it's comical.

Right now, I'm not much of either.............:sad3:

By the way(and not to hijack this thread to another topic), but love the Bills this evening getting +10.5

1. WAGERLINE showing 70% on cowgirls
2. DD HOME MNF DOG
3. First MNF game @ Buff in 13 years
4. Cowboys(although a very good team), obviously overrated at this time(see Packers).
5. General public and America not realizing that new Buff QB is pretty damn decent.
6. Buffalo 2-0 as MNF dogs since 1980.........two times a dog in 27 years!!!
7. Modestly speaking, very seldom off more than 2.5 on an NFL spread when making the numbers on Sunday night for next weeks game, and in this case made the Cowboys a 7.5 pts favorite(missing by what is now 3 pts.)
8. Historically speaking, teams with 1-3 records perform very well against the spread throughout the history of the NFL(one of my favorite "semi-systems).

I need some action. Please e mail me at joey@fbi.gov if you are taking on new players.

I am not a bookie nor do I want to do to be. I dont have the heart/patience to chase people around for money, espically people I know.

I think something I need to make more clear is that people see the bookie (the house) with all the money and the degenrate gamblers with all the problems so I know what they are assuming.

Ice, I think that sometimes it is best to just keep somethings to yourself.

I have had a sports betting account since I was twelve and anytime I have tried explaining what I do it gets frustrating. Actually recently I had told some friends about it, and they had been making comments that were pissing me off like, "WHY WOULD YOU BET THEM?" Of course in the 4th quarter when they were losing, or my favorite - A couple times I have gotten over to a buddies house and turned a channel to a game to check a score. I have heard the - "Call 1-800-Bets-off" statement enough for a lifetime. So last week the buddies that knew about it, I just told them that I had pulled all of my money out my account and quit for the season so I don't have to hear it anymore!

Can't we ALL just get along?!!

I keep it out of conversations as much as possible because it gets annoying trying to explain it to people (plus I'm not really interested in advertising it.) When I do get asked about it I usually tell people I invest in low risk futures .

I also made the number Dallas -7.5. Not sure if you seen my thread about my buddies work place had 29 out of 32 laying Dallas -10 in there contest. No number would be high enough in this spot for Dallas lovers.

Thrown in the home dog on MNF and I am with you. Anyone who doesnt grab Buffalo at least at +10.5 needs more outs.

I totally agree with a few of you on here. I honestly dont even bring it up anymore. The few tinmes have been over a few beers when a few start questioning where I have been or I start talking about the RX and than it leads to other things.

I learned this too late in life, but its best for gamblers to only discuss their gambling with fellow gamblers and keep non-gamblers out of your business.

People are jealous if you win and more often than not cheer for you to lose.

I cant stand talking about my plays with people that dont have action on games.

GREAT POST

I take it a step further ... even with gamblers and even on the RX, I don't discuss gambling too much ... the ONLY thread in which I talk about a play is in Pops' baseball thread ... at my local bar, I explain my interest on the point spread by saying that I am in a huge capping pool ...

I think a few nights at the del rey would help harrington get his capping skills back up to speed.

Havent picked exact dates yet, but Ill be there for the party and some extra time for a sidetrip or two outside san jose.

Not to mention, the wife will say something like "why are you watching this game?" I swear they just wanna hear you say i bet on it as if they dont already know, just so they can give you a dirty look. It is a 24 pt game, you know exactly why im watching this.

Try explaining to others how you are making $$ bonus whoring sportsbooks and casino's. It's even harder...as soon as they hear you are playing online casino's their eyebrows go up and they think you need help.....:think2:

Cinci, something else Ive discovered is the absolute WORST people to discuss your gambling action with is FORMER GAMBLERS.

I have many pet peeves, but imho that is my #1 no-no.

DO NOT DISCUSS ANY GAMBLING ACTION WITH FORUMER GAMBLERS.

All they want to do is suck off someone elses action to get that rush from watching a game and they just about always are secretly cheering for you to lose.

Imho, if they want action, dont tell them anything and make them put their own chips on the felt.

Got +11 at SIA this morning. I made the game Dallas -8.5.

I am about 1 hr from Buffalo and the place will be crazy tonite as we don't usually get a Monday night game because the team has always not wanted them because they say the fans come from 2-3 hours away and do not want a night game. Not sure if its true but I know the place will be hopping tonight. The fans here still have not forgotten about the 2 super bowl losses. Weather will be great, should be in the 70's with a slight breeze that should not be a factor. I think the Bills stink but am taking them in this spot. Then hope my Pats go into Dallas and beat up on the Cowboys
