How can you not play this? I know Byrd got roughed up against the Yankees last time out, but it's not like he hasn't had a very good year.

1 unit on Cleveland, damn.

Agreed

Cleveland is a great value at the price. With the Yankees win last night , everyone in NY/NJ seems to have anointed them as the series winner.

Liking the over too.

My line initially had Mussina pitching until Torre announced Wang as tonight's starter. I was able to get Yanks -185 before the book updated the line. I couldn't refuse knowing Wang was going to be the starter. Line is now -225. Hoping to arb some juice out of the book (for once).

While byrd has horrible numbers against the yanks,I just wonder how long wedge keeps byrd in and does he go to sabathia. If he saves sabathia for the 5th game, that means carmona who was fantastic in game 2 may not even pitch.

counting the fact joba has been used alot and probably wont pitch, and perez has been lights out,I think the indians are the play.

cheers

wedge has said that he is sticking with byrd and not throwing anyone on short rest.

if it gets to game 5, cleveland will then have the ability to throw sabathia AND carmona in the same game if necessary. thats a big luxury to have, although it comes at the expense of playing it fairly conservative tonight.

i know that wedge and his boring self will say that they won't look ahead, but who would pitch friday if both cc and carmona throw game 5. your going to put westbrook out there again? maybe they could work laffey in. also, do u know if betancourt is hurt. wedge put in fultz over him last night? he hasnt even pitched this series.

Indians are now at +200 on 5dimes. I gotta say, I think the Yanks may pull this one off... but +200 going against a pitcher they already beat up on? I know, I know... sinker ball pitchers are better on short rest. I already played Indians over 4 runs, thinking about adding a small bet to them +200. No Joba for NYY today, Rivera was used as well, time to bring in the bunkers from their pen!

youre right, you could conceivably see a jake westbrook/aaron laffey rotation in boston if the indians were forced to throw sabathia/carmona in the same game 5 vs. the yanks.

tough call for the indians. its obviously important to do whatever it takes to win game 5 if it comes down to it .... but its almost like conceding a 2-0 lead to boston in the next round if thats the decision you make.

id actually give laffey a decent shot against matsuzake. i like laffey. he throws strikes and he is very well composed on the mound. but beckett vs westbrook in game one? christ. beckett would be a big time favorite and rightfully so.

Rivera should be good to go tonight if needed. He only threw 10 pitches last night.

Rivera will be good to go, but no Joba\Hughes hurts the Yankees big time. What if Wang gets hit for three to four runs in the first few? Who do they pitch? Vizcuiano (sp) would be the logical choice? That guy is not good.

Just a side thought, but sometimes a sinker baller can be as or more effective on short rest, and less effective when he's stronger.
I've seen Wang this year a few times struggle early, and then be dominant during innings 3-8.

That said, -220 is still a joke of a line.

Depending on how early it is, I think they go to Mussina. If it is later in the game, you're right, they will need to go to Vizcuiano...not comforting. I don't know why Torre didn't 1) keep Hughes in the game or 2) go to Farnsworth before bringing Joba in. They had a five run lead. If either Hughes or Farnsworth began to get in trouble, they could've then brought Joba in. it would've have at least kept his pitch count lower. I know Torre tends to go with the guy(s) that got him there, but he has to realize this kid is 21 years old, he doesn't have the arm strength of a Stanton, Quantrill, Nelson, etc.

I hope they tatoo Byrd early and this way it hopefully won't become an issue.
