They have to change that rule.

You cant call a timeout after the ball is snapped. BS

It will be changed at the end of the year, no doubt. Of course, we will have a repeat of this 47 times before then.

If it wasn't for the Broncos Coach, Shanahan being the 1st this season, to use this last second timeout before FG attempt against the Raiders, the Broncos would be sitting at 1-4. A player on the field can call this last second timeout just as well as the coach on the sideline. I don't see how you can change the rule. A timeout can be called by players on the field and coach on sideline any time before snap. Didn't seem to bother the Cowboys rookie kicker. The Polok for the Raiders bounced his 2nd attempt off the goalpost and the Browns kicker had his 2nd attempt blocked. Grow some chest hair.

This will blow up in some coaches face soon enough. Can't wait for the first idiot to face the press after having the opposing kicker miss the first one and then nail the redeemer.hola

That is what I've been thinking/waiting for.

Although, I actually liked the one last night (for a few seconds), since my end of the game thoughts went something like this:

1) "m#$%@&! how did the Bills blow that game?!"
2) "Kick ass..Bills did that BS TO thing, so there is still a chance"
3) "m#$%@&! how did the Bills blow that game?!"

It should be like in baseball when a batter tries to call the last second time out before the pitch and the ump lets the pitch go.
Well the ref should just let the kick go.

Don't forget Urban Meyer of Florida did the same thing to the Auburn kicker a few weeks ago. Kicker made the first and then made the second. Wonder if the NFL changes the rule if the colleges will follow.

I don't necessarily disagree, but how would you change the rule? What if a team--at the last second--realized it only had 10 men on the field? Shouldn't they be allowed to call a timeout? What about the old school "icing" of the kicker? I don't like this practice, but I'm not sure how you would write a rule that would eliminate it.

If it were up to me, I would go back to NOT allowing timeouts to be called from the sidelines. I'm not a fan of the practice (with or without this FG situation) anyway. We do EVERYTHING from the sidelines now--no longer do players have to have any sort of game intelligence or situational awareness. It's like MLB--almost every pitch is called from the dugout.

Let 'em play, I say.

Thats what im waiting for to for a kicker to miss the first and make the second one, The NFL coaches wanted the ability to call timeouts from the sideline so dont know if this rule will go away next season.

They might have to tweak it some how, but like Mr. Jones posted someday it will backfire on a coach.
