This from a CUBS message board where I mod at...........

Manny Ramires may indeed be the most valuable player in MLB over the past decade.

This guy is amazing. He seems to fly under the radar even while playing for a hugely successful team with a rabid fan base. He's one of the best hitters of my lifetime (started watching in 1965). His team tries to trade him almost every offseason. He has a few drinks in a bar while recuperating from an injury and he's made out to be a pariah.

You'd think Manny was playing in Tampa, for the Rockies evangelical ownership and ruining the "chemistry" on team after team.

Again, I live around Chicago. It always struck me as completely odd the way Manny was perceived...WHEN he was perceived. We had Sosa doing his act which everyone around here and folks all over the country just ate up. But, Sammy was eventually exposed and when that happened it was ugly. Meanwhile, Manny has been almost consistently been perceived as a flake, a problem, a toxic presence...whatever. But, he's STILL with the Red Sox, STILL winning games in the postseason and basically, STILL the same person. Isn't that more than a little odd? Could it be that we're much happier with a masky faker like Sosa than a guy who acts much truer to himself like Manny?

He's just who he is and someday we'll be able to appreciate just how good he really is. Maybe, this postseason will start that process.

By the way, MANRAMs next tator will make him the all-time postseason leader in homeruns for a career.

I do realize the postseason is longer in this day and age, but it's still the record and one that is very impressive on his resume.

Am i missing something iimportant from that post?

Still not sure if many are realizing the greatness in Manny Ramirez......something I've realized for 10+ years now........especially after he destroyed the Red Sox in the postseason as member of the Tribe.

ManRam has one big asset ... if the Red Sox lose, they blame Manny

Last year, the Sox lost 5 straight to the Skankees at home ... Manny reaches base in 19 of 20 plate appearances ... just unheard of

... anyways, with 5 losses, the season is over ... we think the heat will be on Theo, Jed, Luchino, Henry, Francoma

... so the Sox call up their little bitch reporter named Sean McAdam and say that Manny is a malcontent in the clubhouse, and that Manny is ruining chemistry ... THE NEXT DAY, he runs it in the ProJo

... the talk is about Manny ... the heat is off the Sox management team.

They will someday, maybe when he becomes the all time RBI leader.

I don't think he will make that milestone.......but come very close to doing so.

He also has a chance to be the all-time leader in GRAND SLAMS.........not sure, but believe he is only one or two behing Gehrig for this record.

He has had the two best swings on balls I've seen from him all season (the two playoff bombs) perfect balance.Seems to me he will be MVP of the series sticking it to his old team.
I hope to hell they keep Manny and pass on Arod.
Arod push for the home run record will be nothing but a distraction for the team for years to come.

Probably not. Slow Aprils haven't helped.

I've just check, looks like A Rod has a legitimate shot at it.

Manny is a sideshow, and I don't know how much he cares about winning as much as he cares about his own prosperity. I do know this, if I was the opposing manager and Manny posed at home plate TWICE after homeruns, he would have had the next pitch in his ear-hole. Mike Scosia is spineless IMO.

I do not disagree about Manny's greatness....not one bit. He is great to watch at the plate. The fact is though Ortiz is better. David Ortiz for the last handful of years is much better and much more clutch too. Unreal. Now look at the entire career might be different. But for the last few years Ortiz is a better hitter and one of the very best in the game for sure.

Plus, MANNY was an accomplished clutch hitter before ORTIZ even made his way to the show............which many people(especially red sox fans) fail to remember.

Manny has for sure. Ortiz has been fortunate to be on this team, lucky enough to be in good position to excel including having Manny to hit behind him. He was put in a good position and has defintely taken advantage of it.

In my lifetime when I think of the word "clutch hitter", these two guys come immediately to mind(obviously because they are playing now).

George Brett is another that comes to mind............and of course Reggie Jackson.
