I know in the bigger scheme of things, this is a blip in the sports world, but I give up trying to figure out the O's year after year. Seems like one of the few things the team outwardly endorsed, esp the pitchers, was Mazzone's experience and handling of the staff. I guess Angelos decided it was time get himself involved again. This comes on the heals of the announcement that GM Mike Flanagan was not invited to recent team meetings. Nice.
God - will Angelos pls sell the team to anyone...

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]After two loosing seasons many fans blamed on pitching, Orioles Manager Dave Trembley announced today that Leo Mazzone will not return as pitching coach in 2008.
"I spoke with Leo today and told him I appreciated his efforts here," Trembley said in a team news release.
"Moving forward, I felt that we would be better served with someone else working with our young staff and that it was in his best interests and our best interests to give him an opportunity to look elsewhere now."
Mazzone was hired at the end of the 2005 season from the Atlanta Braves, where he was credited with helping develop Greg Maddux, John Smoltz and Tom Glavine.
Mazzone had been friends with former Orioles Manager Sam Perlozzo, who was fired earlier this year.
Mazzone's depature comes one week after team Vice President Jim Duquette resigned.
The team also announced that three players today elected to become free agents.
They are right-handed pitchers Rob Bell and Victor Santos, and catcher J.R. House.
Bell was 4-3 with a 5.94 ERA in 30 relief appearances for the Orioles this season. He had two stints in the majors, joining the Orioles from AAA Norfolk on June 19 through August 30 and again from September 5 through the end of the season.
House batted .211 (8-38) with 3 home runs and 3 RBI in 19 games after his contract was purchased from AAA Norfolk on August 13.
Santos was acquired from Cincinnati on September 7 and went 0-3 with a 8.16 ERA in 4 games for the Orioles, including 3 starts. Overall with the Orioles and Reds, he was 1-6 with a 5.83 ERA in 36 games.

His constant 'rocking' motion would also make him a fit for the Rockies.

Angelos is not going anywhere as long as he has that cable deal (MASN - bunch of bootlicking clown commentators) he set up with the Nats. As long as he has that deal, the O's could lose all 162 games and he would still make a profit. The O's really need a manager to kick their lazy underperforming butts and tear down that JV of a bullpen (30 runs to the Rangers!?).

Besides Mazzone was there for Perlozzo and once he was gone, Mazzone was just waiting for a way out (besides resigning.)

O's fan hope McPhail will turn things around, but as long as Angelos is there to wrench up the deal (petty problems are an example - why won't he put Baltimore on the away uniforms and why didn't he acknowledge the 1966 world series team last year?) O's fans are destined to suffer behind the Yankees, Red Sox, Blue Jays, .....
