30 years ago yesterday sources reveal it is in fact the anniversary of the much publicized beating of well known harness driver William"Buddy" Gilmour. The mob lost over 80k when Gilmour's horse accidentally hit the trifecta and ruined the betting coup at Roosevelt Raceway....Gilmour refused to talk until a major Federal Probe that embarrased harness racing in the NY area....the superfectas were eliminated because of blatant fixing......Many drivers were indicted such as Del Insko.....eventually no charges were filed but many in the know say the superfecta scams netted the syndicates over 5 million.....

If you play Harness you put 8 #'s in a hat and pick 3 and then play the triple unless your going to Northfield, there you use all Morning Line 8-1 and under and put those in a hat and at Harrinton you use Goodell. If your at Chester Downs use Tetrick and if you go to Pocono Downs call me I'll buy dinner and you can buy the drinks.......... :smoker2:

WOW ! Remember this All Too Well... Can't believe that it has been 30 YEARS !!

Remember it well because I was there that night !! with Buddy,Benny,Del, and about 6 others.
Buddy had seemed not himself that night, because we were all going to a Rest. across the street. ( a Place We Always went )
And he wanted to go to the John Peal room at the Island Inn

Word was Buddy might be in trouble with something, and most of us knew what it was.
The thing was that Yes they ( drivers ) had been making some money fixing some races Nightly.
He ( buddy ) had played it off that there was Nothing he could do that night because things just didn't work out.
They ( whoever ) Didn't like that answer ! So they were waiting for him in the Parking lot ( which was Behind the Island Inn )

They worked him over a bit, and locked him in the Trunk of his Car.
He was Found in the Morning. Police Question him But Buddy being the Stand-up guy he was, Never Talked...

Still can't believe it's been 30 Years !! Makes me feel Old !

Goodell doesn't drive at harrington

You're right........ so I'll throw the #'s in the hat or use the dollar bill system. Harness fixing is widespread nice read betallsports we've all been around for awhile. Looking forward to the Big M getting sarted again.... I was at Pocono when the Fans threw the benchs and everything else onto the track

Of course harness races are fixed. Drivers get paid minimum at certain tracks. Don't blame them for fixing certain races.

Drivers get paid 5% of the purse that they earn. Your everyday Harness driver that is driving what we call an Overnight race don't make much. But guys like Mike Lachance, Herve Fillion and John Campbell with a few others have made Millions. Racing in Major races.
John Campbell one of the Best Drivers of all time has earning Over $280 Million, at 5% that's some nice Coin !
Throw in some owners that throw a few more bucks his way... and any Gambling being done.
I remember ( and I have done this before with drivers ) The owner gets the driver a $100 Win ticket on their horse. so it does add up.

are as as Fixing races.. over the years... of course there have been plenty.. but not every race is fixed.

completely innocent of the above story ? or innocent of never being involved in fixing ??

Del might have been one of the Nicest guys ever on the Track. Always said Hello, always had the time to talk to you.
But Best Driver ?? LOL
almost always had a toothpick in his mouth...

Del Insko and his son, Tom, trained in South Beloit, Wis., about seven miles from me. Had a couple of horses with another trainer based across the street from the Insko farm and used his track. Would see him at the OTB, but then the OTB closed and haven't seen him in a few years. Great guy. Would sit at the bar and have a drink and watch his horses at Maywood or Balmoral then leave. Don't think he trains any more.
