Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with this moron - "Father I believe in you", "Father show them your miracles", his wife, "Father make me a believer" - this guy is making me despise religion - does this jackass really believe God gives a fiddler's fuck if he's barrelled in like Journey up there in Baltimore.

Saw an interview with the guy, and i doubt he was lying, he said that early in the tourney he was about avg chipstack and he raised with A3 OFF and was reraised about 10 times his bet all in, Any poker player who knows the rules knows that when you are reraised all in preflop the guy has something better than an ace 3 no doubt

Yang said that he knew the guy had AK,AQ or high pockets, but he made a "pact" with god that if god wanted him to win the tournament he would let him win this hand and if not than so be it, it wasnt in the works for him than, so he called the allin showing his cards to a stunned table

Sure enough his A3 won vs an AK and he said from there he had God on his side

I do believe the man was really religious and as absurd as it may sound he actually believed he would win every all in with gods help :WTF:

The guy was a wackjob but i doubt he was faking the whole religious thing, and BTW i heard he came from like a 6 dollar an hour job with 7 kids just a few years back, you know good for him why not

He wasn't the only one. I think it was Lee Watkinson's wife, on an all-in and call was quoting scripture "No enemy formed against you shall prosper."

My read on Yang is that he's a sincere guy with a very real faith. Seems like a very good-hearted guy. I can't help but laugh at some of his views, but I'm sure he means well. He is humble and gives all credit to God. I'd rather see a wacky, humble guy win it than Phil "I'm the greatest player in the history of Texas Hold'em" Helmuth.

Same reason the Rockies in World Series they have team Bible study and many Christians. Same way Holyfield beat Tyson and Payne Stewart beats Mickeslon, they draw on there faith and get divine strength. You better beleive it, the God who can make Mountains,Galaxys and Oceans can help win a poker tournament. And to people who say God doesnt care or has bigger fish to fry, they are wrong, God is awesome enough to do 2 things at once.

Funny how someone calls someone else a wack job all because they don't think or believe the same things you believe. Yang's a wack job because he's praying and there's no way God could care about this because it's just a poker game, yet how many millions of people got to see Yang pull off the win giving all the glory to God and how many lives can he affect with 8.5 million.

Well I dont know about the religious aspect, but he played ONE HELL OF A FINAL TABLE!!

He won 75% of the hands at the final table including the ones that were not shown! He was in 7th position stack wise when they started the final table. Yet he came out super aggressive and got lucky that Hilm decided to try and push the table around. Hilm went from chip LEADER when the final 9 started to being busted out within 15 hands! That was incredible!

Hilm cost himself AT LEAST 1.5 million by playing that way.

Yang is a very good player in this tournament. He just doesnt fold, and usually he was ahead

I am relatively confident God could care less who wins what hand of poker, who wins what football game, and whether or not Tyson/Holyfield goes over 9.5 rounds - what a bunch of little moochies you guys are - asking God to keep doing you favors - and favors of greed.

I am a Christian, Railbird. But I think you might be perverting the truth a little bit. The prosperity Gospel, "name it and claim it," is man-made idea. To say that team A won because they have more Christians and prayed more........it just seems childish. God can be glorified in wins, losses, ties, suspended games, whatever. It's silly to think that God is a puppet that changes outcomes of random events based on the will of people asking him to.

Does God need Jerry Yang and 8.5 million dollars to be glorified and impact lives? Can you make deals and pacts with God, like Jerry Yang claimed to have done?

No.

I'm tryin this tonight on Full Tilt. I will promise to give half of my winnings to the Christian church. Why didn't I think of this before?

Well said.

I am a Christian too, and have to shake my head at the idea that
God is influenced by poker players praying for the results of their
card playing.

Morgan Shepherd drives the RACING FOR JESUS car in the Nascar Busch series. He has a cross painted on the hood. He usually finishes 40th or worse in a 43 car field. The car is horrible every week. Why does Jesus let this happen? I mean it's the RACING FOR JESUS car. Come on JC , Morgan Sheperd needs your help here!!!

My favorite - he's got someone all in and they flip the cards - he's way behind - pre flop he says, "God, make me a believer!" - like if he lost the hand he was not going to believe any more - what a fucking clown this guy is and most relgious nuts are.

Did God want the World Trade Center to get blown up and have thousands of people die or is that just something you wanted? Because I assume you and God are basically one and the same due to your expertise on God.

Then how come Diego Sanchez has lost 2 straight in the UFC. He always said before his losses that the reason he won was because God was on his side...
