I am addicted to gambling, but I have not done much betting lately.

The key is to control your addictions, and not let your addictions control you.

Iron discipline is required.

One thing I have learned is that iron discipline also means you walk away when you go on "tilt", such as the episode a couple of weeks ago with a mod at the Rx.

If things go badly, just walk away for a couple of days, or weeks, or months. Then come back refreshed and try again.

Stick to your plan, never chase, learn to take a break. Iron discipline.

If you do all that, you still may not win, but that is the only chance a gambler has got to reach the winners circle.

you are born with the addiction, it is not something you develop from betting. A compulsive personality is in the genes and if you have it watch out and be aware your compulsive.

I wouldnt say your born with it. Maybe im wrong but I think its a competitive thing. At least for me anyway. I hate to lose anything, it doesnt matter what it is. It can be a game of Monopoly vs my mom and sisters. You better believe im going for Boardwalk and Park Place and building some fucking Hotels on that shit, and breaking your bank when you stop by for a visit. I have always been this way my whole entire life, all the way back to when I was 4 or 5 years old and would throw a tantrum if my brother beat me in a video game or something.

If I had lost a bunch of money when I started gambling way back then I would have probably said this sux and never gambled again. However all it takes is that 1 week where you make more $$ watching football then you do in your regular job and from that point on you are at "least" somewhat hooked.Even if you start losing, you always remember that time you won a fat stack of green.
I also think its addicting if you love sports.I love the excitement of pulling for MY team. But thats one time a week. When you gamble it makes games you ordinarily would not give a crap about new excitement. Its pretty easy to get hooked.

by being sick in the mind to begin with....gambling just adds to it for some.... but for many they can control it , the few that can not give it a bad name and fuel for the anti gambling people to show it needs to be banned, yada-yada..

do not believe ALL the hype on the negative, like anything if not controlled or done in moderation it is bad

Being addicted to gambling is Like being Addicted to anything Else..

Drugs ! Foods ! TV ! Etc....

You have people that Can't stop Shopping ! A new HOT Item comes out, and you HAVE TO HAVE IT !

If you are addicted to Gambling, Most likely you are that type of person and can be Addicted to other things !

It's All about the RUSH you get by doing it !!

I'm probably addicted to gambling, booze, drugs and sex but luckily I'm strong enough to enjoy them all in moderation and know my limits.

I won't lie, the rush gets to me and makes me want to gamble more. Luckily I don't bet that much on games, as I can't just throw around money like it's monopoly money. I'm very competitve as well. I just want to win like everyone else does.

gambling has always been viewed as a vice since most of us end up losing dough in the long run (myself included).

But, people fail to mention the new "harmless" addiction that is online multiplayer gaming. You can see that people lose their jobs, marriages, and time over this because of the addictive nature of these games. But, it doesn't get the bad rep that gambling does since it's relatively new.

It's all about perception, and gambling is not the only huge addiction out there for people.

I have heard these stories many times. A local told me years ago about a guy who sold his company and retired a millionaire.
He got into gambling, casino and sports. Flat broke in 3 years.

I myself went to the dog track for the first time in June 1990. Made the wrong bet and accidentially made $2000 instead of $1000. Didn't leave for three years, on June 3rd, 1993 I hit the only winning ticket on a super and never went back.

most degenerates are simply junkies, but in their case, it's just for the action

I have heard this excuse for problem gambling for over 40 years. Good Luck
