I laugh my ass off at the people who say that ND should fire Charlie Weiss or that he is a bad coach.

He is doing a hell of job, and I am not saying that for shock value.

In college football you can look into the future 3 or 4 years down the line. Its not like the NFL. If you want to know who the top 5 teams in the country are going to be in 2010 all you have to do is look at the recruiting classes that teams are having right now.

The reason ND got rid of Willingham was not because of the season that he had in 2004. Its because of his last 2 recruting classes that he had.

His last 2 recruiting classes are the 2 class that are Juniors and Seniors now for Charlie Weiss. This is why over half the team he puts on the football field right now is freshman and Sophmores.

The last 2 Willingham classes were a joke, and there is not a coach in the world that could string 3 wins together with whats on that football field every saturday.

Charlie Weiss has proven in his 2.5 years that hes one hell of a recruter.
Last season his class was ranked #2, and this years class is rated so far and above any other school its not even funny.

This years class 2008, the one that comes in next year is so far above the 2nd rated class, its like comparing the Patroits to 2nd best team in the AFC EAST. USC would drool over the people that ND has coming to the school next season.

So give the guy about 2 more years and you will see.

Chop, I've been trying to find the password to Weiss's email account and I'm having no such luck. Do you have any pointers?

*He couldn't do any worse, now could he?

*You have got to be kidding me. You really do not know what you are talking about. Willingham was fired for putting a poor product on the field. Do you really think ND money men said "well, the losing season are tough, but no way in hell will we tolerate a top 30 recruiting class".

His last 2 recruiting classes are the 2 class that are Juniors and Seniors now for Charlie Weiss. This is why over half the team he puts on the football field right now is freshman and Sophmores.
*Ty recruited all cripples and malnourished football players. You're right, 2 recruiting classes in the top 30 (or so) does = 1-7, luck not 0-8, and not being competitive....at Notre Dame. Charlie is doing a hell of a job raping ND of any pride they have in their great program.

The last 2 Willingham classes were a joke, and there is not a coach in the world that could string 3 wins together with whats on that football field every saturday.
*No, just Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Boston College have had worse recruiting class.. the last FIVE years. Wow.

Charlie Weiss has proven in his 2.5 years that hes one hell of a recruter.
Last season his class was ranked #2, and this years class is rated so far and above any other school its not even funny.
*He is a hell of a recruiter. But the hyperbole and delusion in your post is "not even funny". ND's class, except per Tom Lemming of course, will not be rated with such lofty standards, and will not be #1 as long as U$C and Florida is bu$iness. But ND get a true great class this year.

This years class 2008, the one that comes in next year is so far above the 2nd rated class, its like comparing the Patroits to 2nd best team in the AFC EAST. USC would drool over the people that ND has coming to the school next season.
*You're nuts. You don't know what you're talking about. Great recruits do not equal great teams and you are SEVERELY overrating a recruiting class.

So give the guy about 2 more years and you will see.
*I predicted before the season that ND woudl have a losing season. Never thought they'd be setting records for offensive futility. I say now the Charlie Weis contract extension may be one of the worse things to happen to Notre Dame football. Delusional talk like this only lets the fraud live on.

This is what the offensive genius has produced this year. I guess it's all due to bad recruiting.

2003: 5th rated class (all per Scout.com)
2004: 30th
2005: 27th
2006: 5th
2007: 11th

(Look below for recent opponents recent classes that Notre Dame wasn't even competitive with)

Of the 119 teams in Division I-A, ND is 119th in total offense, 119th in rushing offense, 112th in passing offense, and 118th in scoring.

If ND had scored twice as many points this season as they have, they'd be 108th in scoring offense. Every team in Division I has rushed for at least twice as many yards per game as ND except for Duke. Every team in Division I is averaging more than twice as many yards per rushing attempt as ND's 1.09 per carry. Now when a team has no running game at all, it always has at least semi-decent passing numbers because it throws so much, right? Only two teams have thrown for fewer TD passes than ND's four. Only two teams have a lower yards per attempt average.

Boston College (scout.com)
2007: 50th
2006: 44th
2005: not in top 50
2004: 27th

Georgia Tech (scout.com)
2007: 15th
2006: 49th
2005: 48th
2004: 35th
2003: 34th

Michigan State (scout.com)
2007: not in top 50
2006: 43rd
2005: 40th
2004: 13th
2003: not in top 50

You see, if you are going to use excuses for what an unbelievably terrible job Weis has done this year, you need to look somewhere else than recruiting. All three of these teams beat Notre Dame easily - these games were not competitive - and all three teams would love to have had the recruiting classes Notre Dame fans are cyring about (yes, the bad ones were rated higher than all but 3 in five years for the 3 teams).

If you think Charlie Weis is doing a helluva job, you are nuts or you are a Notre Dame hater loving his work.

It is is a coach's job to take his team up at least one level from it's talent, in reality that is what you hope and ask for.

I highly doubt that ND has the worst offensive talent in college football but that is how they have played so far and he must take alot of the blame.

That is the reality of the situation, He has done a piss poor job getting this team to play better than they are and that is his job. Not sure many coaches could have done a worse job so far.

Charlie is just working on job security.

After winning around 3 games this year, Next year he will win double that and he will be looked at as a hero. The year after that 7-5 and say he is improving. Three years from this year ND goes 9-3 and everyone is happy. If he went 9-3 starting this year and did the same the next 3 they would be calling for his head because he didn't win a championship. "Three card Monty" or in this case "CHarlie".:pope:
