Yes, there's tempting odds for taking the Rockies in Game 1, but how tempting can they be, if the Red Sox win?! Guys, I've said it before and I'll say it again, Josh Beckett has given us every reason to believe he'll deliver another stellar performance tonight. He's been absolutely outstanding this postseason, going 3-0 with a lockdown 1.17 ERA, giving up just 3 runs on 9 hits over 23 postseason innings!
True, the Rockies did beat Beckett back on June 14th, when Colorado's batting order roughed him up for 6 runs on 10 hits, handing him his first loss of the season. But let's not get carried away, Beckett will make the necessary adjustments and the last thing you want is the Red Sox's ace even more motivated!
Rest vs. rust, its been all over the media, but let me be the one who settles the debate. Count me as one who believe rust maybe a problem for the Rockies. They can play all the simulated games they want, and go over all fundamentals they want, but we remember what happened to the Detroit Tigers after the layoff. Guys, momentum may not be as strong as factor in baseball, but in this case, its a definately an edge for Boston.
Finally, the real x-factor in this Game 1 match up is the Red Sox's lumber against Rockies southpaw Jeff Francis. Let me remind you, the Sox have been absolutely destroying lefties of late, batting .375 against them over their last 10 games. Say what you will about Francis, but the Red Sox manhandled an even better lefty, C.C. Sabathia, both times they faced him this postseason, tagging him for 12 runs on 17 hits over just 10 1/3 innings!
Bottom line, expect more of the same tonight, as Boston's batting order has finally come to life, top to bottom, and that's bad news for any southpaw. Beckett, meanwhile, will continue his postseason dominance, getting a little redemption from the Rockies for his first loss of the season in the process. Red Sox roll at Fenway in Game 1 of the World Series!
Take the Red Sox behind Beckett over the Rockies as your top-rated play of the day.
